No, that was at Farnborough and I went to Fairford. I used to visit Farnboro' regularly - so regularly in fact that I got press day tickets one year! I always came home with a rucksack and two carrier bags absolutely stuffed with brochures and technical specs from the trade stands (apart from the ones that told me me to piss off!). I'm dubious about the whole thing. It's a 50 Kilowatt beam, which means that every second it delivers 50 kilojoules of energy. The existing Phalanx system delivers ~62 kilojoules per round and fires 50-75 per second. And that's NOT counting the explosive content of each round. The drone in the video takes an incredibly long time to die... Now imagine that it's a quarter-tonne (or more) anti-ship missile doing Mach 2 or better. Wouldn't you want to kill it a damned sight faster than than they do to the drone?
