Should it be illegal for a 55 year old to marry a 20 year old?

No, I think it is kind of weird, but no reason it should be illegal.

why is there a need? Do you see a whole lot of people in their 50s marrying 20 year olds? And if so are they threatening our society with their marriage?

If they both consent and are adults they can do whatever they want. It is usually the man wanting someone to be with and the woman who wants security and a money maker so she doesn't have to work.

You do not compute. Which society were you referring to?

Tell us what constitutes an ideal marriage in your opinion, and then we can see how closely this specific combination conforms to your ideal.

I can't imagine why. But I am curious: What motivates the question?

Is there no reply alert when the reply is from a moderator?

There should be, regardless of the person making the reply.

As long as both people are mentally capable of making an informed decision to enter into a relationship with each other, why should a 35 year age gap be relevant?

Many 55 year olds can be quite youthful and vigorous. Is there a specific couple that inspired this question or is it just a general discussion topic?

Of course. Marriage should be forbidden in general, extramarital sex too. After this, the next generation will consist of people who do not care to ask the state about permissions for whatever.

People live together even if they aren't married. The problem is that when they ever break up only one person will get most of the belongings that they have bought together.

Mod Hat ― Since you asked

At this point it would be the standard tech advice to check your settings. Beyond that, my opinion is to take it up with XenForo, the software manufacturer. The reason I say this is that nothing about this software works quite the way it seems like it should. Indeed, we just had a fairly major issue with notifications, and since the member involved is really, really pissed off at us right now, it's kind of hard to figure out what's going on with that.

I would suggest the problem is that this verision of XenForo's software should never have been released; it seems rather quite unfinished. But there are also vectors for user error; certain adjustments we have hoped and even asked for are not forthcoming.

On another front, since I've already got my green hat on, I figure I should ask the question on everyone's mind: Is there actually a topic here?

I mean, I can send this over to Free Thoughts or something, if you want, but what the hell is the EM&J issue, here?

I can't understand why you're even asking this question. These "May-December" marriages (as they're called) occur all the time.

The typical scenario is a wealthy old man whose wife is dead (or perhaps divorced), who would like to have a new wife but not one of the few who are his age and just as set in their ways as he is. If he's not a complete asshole, there are many young women who would be willing to marry him just to have a much easier, more comfortable life than the one they've got. At that age he's hardly going to pester them for sex more than once or twice a month--and fall asleep as soon as it's over--and there are quite a few women who would not regard that as an onerous duty--probably no more than women with men in their own age group.

He's going to die while she's still relatively young, leaving her a fortune.

And it's worth mentioning that not all May-December marriages are like that. People who are 35 years apart in age can nonetheless find each other attractive and fall in love.

At any rate, this is America, and we get pretty cranky when the government passes laws that don't seem to have any obvious reason. Why would you even want a law like that??? If the two people end up not being happy, they can always get a divorce. Duh?

Hugh Hefner, the creator of Playboy magazine who is now worth $43 million, is 90 and has been married a few times to much younger women. I've never heard about any of them complaining.

No it shouldnt be illegal but it will almost always be the older male thats 55 and the female 20. 99 to 100 percent. Why? Because we have a warped unbalanced society where men not only had their time with their own age group of women but also want to take another generations which frankly is selfish, disgusting and piggish to put it plainly and honestly.

I was recently talking to a 71 year old man who told me he always goes for women 40-50ish. If you are 70ish why the fuk are you better than a 70ish female? Aint so. Hmm, okay but notice the huge pink elephant and that is why the FUK do men think their ass is entitled to go for women not in their age group? This leaves women of their age group alone and out in the cold as many men seek younger women.

Society accepts this but its actually pretty atrocious and sad.
But people will do what they want to do.

But i have to laugh because naive people can pretend its love when they really dont have much in common when its just using either for money in the case of females or for an asswipe to hold onto their illusion of youth for the male which is pathetic.

And uh yeah, a 55 year old with a 20 year old is pretty disgusting but heck society accepts lots of disgusting shit because will cater to their base urges.
