Here the meaning is to fight with a character of your own imagination.
Thus you are fighting as if against yourself and improving your technique as well as getting many new ideas.

It can be done infront of a mirror, or not.

 

I don't understand.. what's the point ? Wouldn't it be better training if you fight a real person ?
