    This thread
    http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=62339
brings up something I've been wondering about.
Why is samcdkey embraced by western liberals of sciforums? The fact she bashes the west and makes excuses for the east like a western liberal doesn't make her the same when she's indian. She has more in common with prince james, baron max, or myself.
An indian equivalent of a western liberal would hope america succeeded in iraq and then went on to invade india. They'd constantly mock india and indian people, not be so flagrantly nationalist and patriotic as samcdkey. She's a good ol' boy.
Her racist topic would have been created to support goodey and point out how india has some nerve being outraged when it's such a "backwards racist cesspit" (an indian liberal's words, not mine).

I just see a double standard, the western equivalent to samcdkey would be seen as a "knuckle dragger", but sciforum's has conditioned her to think she's some kind of enlightened new age hippy liberal type because she agrees with them.
No, if you're indian and you hold similar views to people like genji and jamesr you're a savage racist with a rose coloured view of your people and culture and an open hostility towards the west (at least, this is how you would generally be seen by sciforums if they wanted to be consistent).
You are (correctly, I might add) on your countries side, which means there is a difference of elemental significance between you and your friends here.

    Dr Lou Natic:

It doesn't make an ounce of difference to anything that samcdkey is Indian. I can imagine that such a thing matters tremendously to racists and the like, but why on earth would a liberal care?

I agree with samcdkey on many issues, but it has nothing to do with her national identity or mine. It has to do with the fact that she thinks about things, and bases her opinions on an informed understanding of the world, as opposed to the knee-jerk reactions and prejudices we commonly see from you and your mob (if you have one, and assuming you want to play "us and them").

But you see, "liberal" overrides nationalistic concepts like "East and West" in this case. Liberals don't automatically support everything America does just because it is America or "western". Nor do they automatically support everything that happens in India just because it is "eastern". More important values issues are at stake than geography.

Please explain to me exactly how you reach the conclusion that I am a "savage racist". I would say that I am one of the most outspoken members here against racism.

Moreover, I live in "the West". I'm certainly not "openly hostile" towards the West. I'm all for it, believe me. But that doesn't mean I think "the East" is unmitigated evil, or anything stupid like that. Nor does it mean that I think everybody in the West is a paragon of enlightenment.

It seems me that it is you who paints the simplistic black-and-white picture here, not samcdkey.

    Gotta weigh in here...

I love sam. But sam is just the teensiest bit west-o-phobic. That's not the right term. Sam seems a bit biased in her presentation of east-west issues. That's all. All I have to say is, Jai Hind! Oops. I mean, Go USA!

    You make some interesting points.

So do liberals hate the Western culture? I don't hate either the Western or Eastern cultures, they each have their strengths and weaknesses.

Although I may appear one-sided in my presentation of India here, thats mostly because few people actually know enough about India, her politics, her problems etc to have a discussion with. The few threads I opened on these subjects died an ignominious death. Lets just say that problems with politicians who abuse power, suppression of the status of women, equal opportunity for all and better socialistic programs with more taxation and civic responsibility on the part of those who benefit more from the opportunities society has to offer are not just burning issues in the West. In fact, they are even more significant in a country where 45% of the population is not only extremely poor but also requires more in terms of basic education, healthcare and employment opportunities, let alone relief from oppressive social systems that have been promoted by the select landed gentry or so-called high caste groups that have concentrated power in their hands. A small example: several farmers commit suicide every year when crops fail. This has been going on for several years and is reflective of the fact that farmers themselves make very little money from their produce and a failed crop means starvation and bankruptcy due to an absence of support from any kind of welfare program. In a country thats mostly agricultural this is a matter of shame and terrible grief.

Does that clarify some things for you?

I love you too. And there are equal or greater problems on the other side. Exploitation is not a Western prerogative, though some have the resources and military/political ability to create more damage than others. But then I'm also pretty sure that there are good people in the West, just as there are some sick weirdos in the East.

I don't perceive any "western-bashing" on her part. If by embrace, you mean that she can hold an intelligent discussion, then yes. Unlike Republicans lately, the left doesn't have to march in lockstep with the party line. Disagreement is part of problem solving, for the right it amounts to disloyalty. She has made many points that I disagree with. Liberals generally acknowledge the need for some military intervention in Afghanistan for instance.

Isn't 'western culture' a strangely disparate thing to go around hating or bashing?

Not being a liberal yourself, you're unqualified to make definitive pronouncements on what liberals do or do not think, Prince_James.

What about ducks? Can he comment on the behavior of ducks? Or does your rule only apply to liberals?

Of course it's true that, baring psychic powers, he can not truly know what thoughts (if any) run thru the mind of a liberal. But he can infer them from your actions and from what you say.

Conservatives hate western culture. They want to conserve culture. Conserving culture is the same as killing it because culture naturally changes.

Isn't that akin to saying that one is killing the Mona Lisa as one wants to keep it beautiful?

You are killing culture if you would still paint mona lisas.

How in hell would that "kill" culture??? Art students copy famous paintings all the time in schools ....they're killing culture??

Someone famous once said: "To be copied is one of the greatest compliments that one can pay to an artist." Perhaps he should have included it being complimentary to culture, too, huh?

Don't read many of her/his posts, do you?

And hypocritical? Oh, yeah, she/he constantly berates the west, especially the USA, for things that India has been doing for a gazillion years ...racism, cultural classification and hatred among its people, religious hatred, political corruption, ....and many more.

And she/he does it in such a quick, professional way and style, that I'm lead to believe that she's/he's a paid propagandist for some group or political affiliation or ....? She has gazillions of web links all stored away for quick, easy posting ...as if it's her/his job!
