Well then... that's interesting looking. I'm curious to know what kind of maneuverability it would have.

I wonder who/what Russia is targeting with this kind of publicized release?

Pop Science pablum...the author sensationalizes with "unveils its next generation 'Star Wars' combat uniform".
The article fails to support the sensationalist headline!

To alleviate your "wonder", Kittamaru, why not just read the article.
Oleg Chikarev, of the Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Building, clearly states the reasoning behind its creation and display.

Personal consumption, it's for domestic consumption: a) It's "yugely" impractical; b) Russia cannot afford it; c) They don't have the technology to make it work and support it. It's more of Putin's military puffery. Putin and Trump have much in common.

What's sensationalist about it - to the average layman, the comparison between this and a Stormtrooper is actually rather apt (you did see the images, right?)

I think you are, as usual, just looking to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.

Aye, but, see, here's the thing - Putin has no qualms about spending ungodly amounts on the military even while his people starve. As for the technology - well... can we safely say that anymore? After all, if he asks nicely, I'm sure his buddy Trump will give it to him

Aye - to what end is the disturbing part.

"as usual", Kittamaru, you make an "ad hominem attack" instead of addressing the issue...

Nowhere IN the article does the author proffer any support for the Sensationalist Headline : "Russia unveils its next generation 'Star Wars' combat uniform".
As a matter of FACT, the article clearly states the opposite: "this is the prototype for a combat suit that Russia hopes will give its soldiers the edge on the battlefields of the future." , and ; " 'On display is our vision of the suit we would like to develop within the next couple of years.' " ...
    - the ^^above Quoted^^ from : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...eils-generation-Star-Wars-combat-uniform.html

Both of those statements make it crystal clear that, at this point in time, it is Actually Currently NOT the "next generation 'Star Wars' combat uniform", Period!!!

Yes, Kittamaru, indeed I "did see the images"!
But, more to the point, instead of being swayed or misled by the Sensationalist Pop Science Pablum Headlines and Images, Kittamaru, I actually read, comprehended and fully understood the article - prior to Posting...

I was wondering that too. Would it be like clanking around in a suit of medieval armor?

The story says, "The suit was created at the Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Building, a Moscow-based weapons development centre, RT reported. Its deputy chief of weapons systems, Oleg Chikarev, said: 'On display is our vision of the suit we would like to develop in the next couple of years'."

It's a defense R&D organization trying to raise its profile by announcing a cool thing that it's working on. Western defense companies do the same thing. (Just pick up an issue of Aviation Week.)

    http://aviationweek.com/defense

Remains to be seen how practical it is or whether the Russian army ever adopts it.

The headline is not sensationalist. It is the opinion of the author that the suit looks like something out of Star Wars - something multiple sites have mentioned:

    http://www.businessinsider.com/russia-just-showed-off-new-stars-wars-combat-suit-2017-6
Russia just released a video unveiling its new 'Star Wars' combat suit

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/othe...nveils-next-generation-combat-suit/vp-BBDtO2C
The future is now: Russian military unveils next-generation combat suit

Russian military lab unveils prototype Star Wars-like combat suit

    https://www.rt.com/news/394745-russian-future-combat-suit-exoskeleton/
Russian military lab unveils prototype of Star Wars-like combat suit

If you disagree with the title(s), then either take it up with the authors), or move along and don't comment. Throwing a temper tantrum just makes you look foolish.

You don't feel this is a next generation combat uniform? Interesting... maybe it's a onezie meant for sleeping in? Or perhaps a skydiving outfit? OH! I KNOW! It's a fucking spacesuit!

Of course it's a combat uniform, and it's designed as a "next generation" one. Whether or not they ADOPT it changes nothing about what its intended purpose is.

You wish to argue it is not a "next generation combat uniform", then present your idea about what it is and support it. Otherwise, you are being just as I said - contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.

If the shoe fits, DMOE, wear it.

Still, Kittamaru, preferring to predominately proffer Ad hominems instead of opting to engage in an Open, Earnest and Honest discussion...

No "temper tantrum" on my part...
Foul language/cussing from you is not needed...
No "wish to argue" on my part...

Simply pointing out - as Yazata did, also - what the article actually is, and what information it truly conveys...

Here's some more on powered and passive exoskeletons:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_exoskeleton

    http://exoskeletonreport.com/2016/07/military-exoskeletons/

    http://breakingdefense.com/2017/05/k-srd-exoskeleton-gives-overburdened-troops-a-leg-up-literally/

    http://spectrum.ieee.org/video/robo...-batterypowered-exoskeletons-on-real-soldiers

    http://www.sarcos.com/products/guardian-xo/

    http://www.scout.com/military/warrior/story/1673802-special-ops-advances-iron-man-suit-2018

As you can see, it isn't just some hideous Russian idea to destroy everything good and decent. People all around the world are working on these things. Japan obviously (they have never seen a robot they didn't like.) The leader, as one might expect, is probably DARPA.

Perhaps, but then again, Russia is one of the more antagonistic nations of the world... Their desire to further ramp up their military seems like a reasonable thing to worry about.

Granted, I'd say the same about the US because holy hell do we spend enough on the military yet?

    What you "consider",Kittamaru, is irrelevant.

The only issue that is relevant is the article : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...eils-generation-Star-Wars-combat-uniform.html

Still, "as usual", Kittamaru, you make another "ad hominem attack" instead of addressing the issue...

Instead of personal attacks on me, why not simply address the Issue that I pointed out in my Posts #2, #7 and #15 : The article fails to support the sensationalist headline!

Could you...would you Please, Kittamaru, simply address that Issue, Please?

I already did, in Post 9, address your claim that the headline is sensationalized. It isn't sensationalized. Now answer the question I posed to you - if you wish to argue that this is NOT in fact a design for a next generation combat uniform, then what do you propose it is.

Kittamaru : Nowhere did I state, aver nor imply in any way that "this is NOT in fact a design for a next generation combat uniform".
Those are your words, not mine.

I do not wish to "Argue" at all, Kittamaru.
Again those are your words, not mine.

Further there is no reason, nor need to argue, Kittamaru.
    Simply read the article...

The article : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...eils-generation-Star-Wars-combat-uniform.html , clearly states "this is the prototype for a combat suit that Russia hopes will give its soldiers the edge on the battlefields of the future." , and ; " 'On display is our vision of the suit we would like to develop within the next couple of years.' " ...
    - the ^^above Quoted^^ from : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...eils-generation-Star-Wars-combat-uniform.html

Those words, Kittamaru, quoted directly from the article make it very clear that the "prototype/vision" pictured and described in the article is simply one Research Institutes exercise in developing a Possible Product...
Nowhere in the article does it state that the "prototype/vision" pictured and described is indeed "Russias next generation 'Star Wars' combat uniform".

Ergo, the Issue that I have tried to Point out in relation to the Pop Science Pablum linked in OP, is simple : The article fails to support the sensationalist headline.

    Period.

    First off -
    You said:
So, right up front, you are lying. 10 points from Gryffindor.

    Secondly -
The headline is, and I quote:
Russia unveils its hi-tech motorised 'Star Wars' armour for soldiers complete with exoskeleton, night vision and helmet

What in that headline is unsupported - the armor that was shown has an exoskeleton, has night vision, and a helmet. It is motorized. It bears resemblance to Storm Trooper armor. Additionally, as you have just now admitted, it is in fact a design for a next generation combat uniform.

So, not only are you dishonest, and not commenting in good faith, you are inept in your doing so.
