...if you like those, try reading "The Morning of the Magicians" ("The Dawn of Magic" in Europe). Lots of strange stuff in that one...though as always "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs." Also consider checking out "The Book of the Damned" by Charles Hoy Fort. Some very interesting stuff there as well.
From yesterday's Washington Post: New lidar technology was used to investigate the ruins of Angamuco, in west-central Mexico. A major city of the Purepecha empire was discovered —rivals of the Aztecs in the centuries preceding the Spanish occupation. The lidar mapped the entire 500 acres (almost a square mile) in 45 minutes. Lidar was also used to mapped 77 square miles (about 250 sqkm) at Caracol, a Mayan city. A great many agricultural terraces were discovered, as well as things that had never been seen before, such as reservoirs, housing, roads and markets. In Cambodia, lidar is used (slowly) to find traces of ancient ruins and infrastructure that are now buried under modern-era roads, buildings and agricultural fields. --------- I also recently read an article in the Smithsonian magazine about Stonehenge. Using modern technology, the site was discovered to be considerably larger than we thought. A network of passages and chambers, which are now underground, suggests that it was used for more than religious rituals.
The more we investigate the Ancient - times the better off we will be. The ancient history is what mainstream historians would rather us commoners not know about.
