About 30 years ago I spent 2 weeks with some friends that were in Japan for a work project. I have to say they have the cleanest cities I've ever seen. It's hard to describe to anyone who hasn't been there, because it seems so impossible that cities could be that clean. But all Japanese individuals take personal pride in being responsible for keeping their piece of the city clean and not littering anybody else's piece of the city. You just don't see any trash or paper blowing in the wind and for all the smokers over there you never see any butts on the ground.
