It seems that people, people meaning me, always get looked down upon for admitting that physical traits are important to them. My female friends especially call me shallow, saying I should be attracted to their personality and that looks don't matter. I don't get this at all. Why? Why is it so wrong to think that looks are important? It's like I'm the devil all of a sudden. At least i'm honest about it.

Plus, at least it's changeable. With personality, a person is who they are...I don't think you can change your personality without acting phony...unless you're just mean I guess. People can change their looks though. You can groom yourself, dress better, work out...implants/facelifts and all that are out of the question in my mind, but if somebody thinks that is right for them, then fine.

But why is it so bad to care about looks? Why shouldnt they matter as much as anything else?

PS-Oh and this brings me to another question. Why do women spend soo much money on clothes and make up and all that to look good when working out is free and will make them look a sooo much better? I've never understood that. <3 girls that are in shape. Doesnt it work both ways? Don't girls love guys that are in shape too? I don't mean huge and muscley, but just in shape. I thought it was the same for everyone.

Of course looks are important. After all you're not going to want to be with someone who scares the crap out of you when you turn the light on. But one would have to admit that looks are not the most important thing. The person you are with comes as a whole package and that includes personality. Personally I find looks without personality boring as hell. I mean if the person has no brains and just looks good... ugh.. I'm more attracted to personality (and intelligence) as that is what defines the individual. And when you really care about someone, as in love that individual and who they are, looks don't even come into play.

Do you have any idea how expensive it is to work out now? Going to the gym is not cheap. And since I'm not a fashion or make up bunny, I would hazard a guess that women spend so much on clothes and make up because 1) they want to look good OR 2) they want to attract males who want them to look good... as in they are vain.

Looks do matter, but it shouldn't be the only thing that attracts you to a person. While it may be the initial thing that you notice (and are attracted to) about them, if you're going out with someone just because they look good, then you have a problem and a purdy trophy on your arm.

the initial attraction is always physical / biological
there's nothing wrong with that. that's how humans tick.

but unless you've got something interesting to say except "i can benchpress 300 pounds" or "36-24-36" you'll be dumped after a one-night-stand or so

You get called a devil because you're saying this in front of girls no doubt with their fingers crossed that some prince charming would not mind the extra chin and the moustache.

I don't even have to go that far. You're friends are probably average- those girls you see flaunting the no-makeup look........... with tons of makeup and down-to-earth-bullshit.
B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T

You'd never get the holier-than-thou's if your girly friends were bombshells.

Folks only think this becuase the genepool is average. For every beauty there are 100 eyesores or below averagers.

And guess who voices their opinion?

Because painting a face you just stuffed with corndogs is much easier than ritualizing your life around a good workout ethic.

Ask your friends. Five bucks says they know what I'm talking about and five more that they'll never adimt it.

Lasty......ribbed abs and a "nice ass" won't help you if you're standing there looking like garbage from the neck up. All you mirror athletes looking like Pee Wee on top of the 'beautiful body' get on my nerves thinking muscle is key to forgetting your face is repulsive.

Because they have been taught to sensitize their speech but you don't follow, you speak the truth. There is nothing wrong with you, infact it is great that you make your intentions known.

Humans have the ability to scan an entire face and judge for themselves if the resulting conclusion is labeled beautiful or not in less than a second.......it is there for a reason.

I freely admit I am shallow but usually once you "Connect" (whatever that means) with someone, their looks seem to matter less and less (so i have been told). That would explain why so many drop dead gorgeous women have less than competent husbands when it comes to the aesthetics department.

Monkey, I understand, except I would get the I don't believe you act instead of you are a pig one.

The first thing I see physically on a woman is her eyes, is there warmth, depth, compassion, intelligence, etc. there? Plus does she have beautiful eyes. Then the hair, a woman needs nice hair, does not need to be some $200 cut, just look nice. Preferably brunette or red head, but I have no problems with blonds. An 80s hair do is a bonus, Hey I like big hair. I do not care how good looking a woman is, if she is not intelligent, cannot speak her own mind, and think for herself, I will not even give her a second look. I don't think women should used for one night stands or men either, there is a self-respect issue there. We are humans, not some mindless animal. If all the above are there, I do not care if she has large breasts or much at all, or if she has a great body, though I definitely admit I like a nice body, but it is not a deal breaker for me. I think women, to me anyway, should always be treated like a lady, does not matter who they are. A man should hold the door for an unattractive woman as well as the beautiful, but then again beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder. 11. ### sargentlardSave the whales motherfuckerValued Senior Member Messages: 6,698 Whats the difference? Yup, I, unfortunetly, learned that the hard way during many years knowing some bombshell bores. Beauty is only a draw untill the sociolization takes over. You'll notice a beautiful women walking down a street rather than the intelligent one but once the words are exchanged mental prowess is the true beauty you have to look out for. At that point Physical appeal is of very little concern though, I, to some degree and many men sometimes fail to see that. Don't even get me started on compatibility. 12. ### truthRegistered Senior Member Messages: 643 I hope the difference is treating another as you would wish to be. I agree Sarge, compatibility is a huge issue, although I have found myself with strong attractions to women who are opposites, it makes for interesting conversations. 13. ### sargentlardSave the whales motherfuckerValued Senior Member Messages: 6,698 Call me a cynic but i have seen enough to see the fine line be blurred out of existence. Really, I always got a heapfull of awkward silence and truly mindless banter about everyday ongoings. 14. ### truthRegistered Senior Member Messages: 643 A woman must also have a sense of humour and adventure. Also, I almost like to see a woman without makeup first, I like to see the real thing. I don't mind the makeup, but like to see the real woman too. "Really, I always got a heapfull of awkward silence and truly mindless banter about everyday ongoings." I would almost rather have stabbing abdominal gas pains than this, at least with the pain you can have a valid excuse for making an escape. Ya you know, taking a walk or a jog around the block really empties my pocktes. And those push ups? Wow! Whenever I get a bonus at work and I have alot of money to spend, I go to the local sports store and empty my whole bank account on those$5 weights that I use for light work outs. Yes, working out = VERY expensive.

Walking/jogging is free. In my opinion, walking is the best thing a woman or man can do to stay in shape. Walking a few times will keep ya thin and jogging will keep you fit and your ass tight...and mm do i love women with tight asses

And I'd like that a man let me curling iron his penis first before we go any further. You know, I'd like to 'see the real thing' too.

Godammned you, truth- don't ever ask that a woman show you her face without makeup first. That comes later when you have no choice.

I don't mean $200 dollar haircuts,$300 glasses, a $200 outfit and all that glammy shit, I just meant naturally, working out and all that, generally. Hell, I cut my own hair and have been wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and flannel since I was 13. That kind of shit doesnt matter to me. It's when I went Christmas shopping I saw countless big women in these expensive clothes (too tight of course) and thought they should save their money and jog or something. A fit girl in a tshirt and jeanes > a nasty outta shape one in a$1000 wardrobe and diamonds and all that.

Always.

Here's another grain of truth for truth- women should never pluck those brows......................and then f**king draw them back in the same shape.

I have to admit, I never understood that. I do say that I am very appreciative of shaven legs and underarms. Seeing some of those women in Europe with hairier legs than mine was scary, granted mine are not bad, but geez.
