If you were to sum up all the moods of the people on the planet at what ever day you posted, from what you know (How you see the world is moving through the media etc) what would you call the planets emotion? (That of all the peoples combined)

It would be interesting to have a gadget that could read every mind/mood simultaneously to tell if the world is mostly happy or unhappy.

The name of the reading? I'm not sure.

    Perhaps a GLOBAL-EMOTIONOMETER.

    Or a PLANETARY MIND-SNAPSHOT.

    Or even a SUMTHOUGHT TOTALLER.

Though of course, half the world would always be asleep or dreaming at any given time.

    Stryderunknown ...

    The planet's emotion?

    Don't give a damn ... Just itchy.

    The people's mood?

Hungry ... When do we eat?

    Universal stressometer?

I'm glad you had the post in the right Spirit Pilgermann and by the way, Welcome to Sciforums.

I couldn't work out if Chagur was the one that "Doesn't give a damn and itchy" or the world, he's right if he meant the world, probably itchy with a particular finger.

Anyway I hop this post continues to grow with ideas, although Pilgermann pointed out that 1/2 the world would be sleeping, that's alot of consenting adults feeling horney

Well, first I would seperate the planet's emotion from the people that infest her.

Gaia, our mother, is deeply saddened headed for angry.

The people are apathetic, and fearful, full of anomie and dread.

Increasingly, witness the 93% approval ratings for the slaughter in Afghanistan, Americans are becoming like those of the ancient Roman Empire. While their leaders, not the elected officials but the handpicked policy elites that do the bidding of their elite masters, continue the real war against the earth. Stripping it of all that gives life, for profits. These men feel nothing but power, do nothing but amass fortunes and thus more power. They are not like you or I, and one can only come to really understand world events by understanding how the elite's see 'their' planet.

    100 people

If the world were 100 people

    There would be:

    57 Asians

    21 Europeans

14 from North and South America

    8 Africans

    52 would be female

    48 would be male

70 would be nonwhite, 30 white

59% of the entire world's wealth would belong to only 6 people

and all 6 would be citizens of the United States

80 would live in substandard housing

70 would be unable to read

    50 would suffer from malnutrition

    1 would be near death

    1 would be near birth

Only 1 would have a college education

99 of them will not see this message,

because only 1 would have a computer.

    When one considers our world

    from such a compressed perspective,

    the need for both acceptance,

    and understanding becomes glaringly apparent

I would say planetry mood at present will be Half zombiefied through a the half awake, half asleep limbo.
A majority of the people on the planet will be bored with the global climate's direction, and a few will be realising just how close Winter is getting and knowing that loads of kids are going to want the new toys on the market.

    machaon,
I don't mean to turn this topic into a skeptics convention, but how many people would believe in alien entities? And how many will believe we are stuck in a machine?

    Yes, that´s it!

Earht is as all the other planets, living organsims that we are a part of and even have cocreated with the greater consciousnesses of the planet, the sun, the galaxy, universe and all that is.
The whole physical reality is like a simultaneous, symbiotic, slow moving porridge texture like film. Where we are the actors and the watchers and the creators all at the same time. Every moment is a piece of magical history.
    Like now.

If that's true, why do we need a messiah, particularly you?

Here is another one to remind you.

Earth is the Planet given to us to life our lives in balance with Nature and I agree with jandt.

It begins to look like the human race is heading straight into the past with their behaviour and then I must come to the conclusion that the Roman Empire maybe would be better then what is going on now on Earth.

At the moment the Sun has Major Sunflares, much, much bigger then ever before.
Because of the damage the human race has brought at the Ecosphere you can wait for the disaster to come.

Why you think humans don't find life forms at other Planets?
Once there was life on Mars and on Venus.
By the way the Planets got their names from the old Roman gods.
It has all to do with eachother, you can't separate the Planets in the Universe from Earth.

Earth has not to be fought by humans, live in balance with Her.
The Sun is already a little out of shape, so to say.....
And the large Solar flares are not over yet, not in a long run they are.

Hey, let's issue a passport to this really big rock on which we live.

Then, as a living organizism and neo-legal entity -- a US citizen, we each could sue this planet in a court of law for life-long monetary support due to its habitual, negligent violations of basic human rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

(Planet Earth. As your attorney, I strongly advise against you acknowledging any association with the name Gaia.)

Can you explain to me why you are against the name Gaia, for it certainly is the right name for Earth.

Guess you haven't studied enough about this item, for you should have known this then. Do a little more research I advise to you Mr. G.

By the way, the Solar flares grow bigger and bigger.
The Leonid Meteor Storm which is to be expected is a whole lot bigger then ever before.

May it hit Earth, then you'll know.

Big, big Solar flares by a rising Moon and a Meteor Storm bigger then ever before...Can't you really feel the warning from the Universe???

I don't add anything more to you, do your research a little more well please.
    Thank you very much.

    The World's Population

Woah – those facts and figures of the world’s population if it were to be represented by 100 just do not compute, Wil Robinson!! 14 from the Western Hemisphere - most of 'em have to be from South America, so that means less than 6 from the U.S. But then there's the thing about wealth which has all 'six' from the U.S. having most of the wealth. Que? Also an average population of the U.S. would show that the percentage of people with wealth to be very small, so how come the six represented here happen to be those with wealth? And how come only one of them has a college degree when all of those in the BRW Most Wealthy U.S. list have degrees coming out of their respective bottoms???

Anyhow, as per usual for me, I had to go to Urban Legends to check this one out. Have a gander at this URL to see how it should measure up:

    Very interesting!!
