If I was your kid and you had my leg cut off against my will, I would commit suicide for sure. How would you feel?

Not as young and foolish as me. Hehe.

    well I'd feel like crap.
But I'd also wonder how I raised a child to have such little value for their own life.

I'm 31, with 5 kids, Orleander I dunno, just know she has kids. It's waaay different when you have kids. I used to feel like you do. I wanted to decide things for myself at age 8.

See-a parent's responsibility goes beyond feeding and clothing and schooling. We have to protect our kids, from themselves if necessary. It's not done out of disrespect, but consider, the parent would take the illness from the child if they could, at the cost of their own lives if necessary.
I love my kids, they make me nuts sometimes, but I would cheerfully subject myself to eternity in hell, if it made their lives go better.

It's not having little value for it. Like I said 'I love life, but not unconditionally'. My life would be destroyed if I had my leg cut off.

True. It's an unconditional love I don't understand and unfortunately probably never will. So I guess my opinion isn't valid. I can only go on the relationship I have with my parents. The only medical decision I remember making when I was little was when the doctor told me I had to get braces when I was 8 to close the gap in between my two front teeth.

To me that isn't a medical decision. If my daughter wanted that gap, she could keep it.

Mr. Hamtastic you were arguing that you should be alowed to decide if you lived or died. If you are against the goverment deciding why should you be for the parents deciding?

personally i think some of the atitudes expressed here are selfish in the extreem, no one can decide what another person is willing to live with

No, I didn't look for Medical Necessity at all!! I was looking for your original Doctrine of Necessity.

And it talks about what Medicare covers and medical weed. Not one word about who decides what in a medical emergency. NOT ONE WORD!

if your interested this is the PROPOSED bill

Of course it isnt legislation its a proposed piece of legislation and has nothing to do with the refusal of treatment which is covered under the act i posted at the start of this thread

Why can't I be against government regulation of people's healthcare, and all for parental rights? Uncle Sam ain't my daddy! He just wants to get me alone and rape me.

    Mr. Hamtastic

ok lets say we remove the mental health act and replace it with a bill which says your wife, children or parents can have you commited if she wants to if you are suicidle or she can leave you to die

    Would you surport that?
or is it your decision alone what you can live with?
