I am not aware of any issues though, I just once had the thought and I can't really satisfy myself with either answer. Although, the thought that nothing really matters somehow makes more sense to me than the other answer.
It seems logically true, that's all. Forget the thing about nothing existing. But that nothing really matters seems logical..
I wonder if enmos, my good friend, was inspired by the Bohemian Rhapsody when naming this thread... as the song goes... ''Nothing really matters... anyone can see... Nothing really matters... nothing really matters.... to me...'' Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Not inspired but it reminds me of it Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! ''Nothing really matters... anyone can see... Nothing really matters... nothing really matters.... to anything...'' And I just want to say that I don't act on the thought that nothing really matters as some people here seem concerned. It's just something that seems logical to me.
I don't think either you or I know much about everything, nothing, whether this 'if' is meaningful or relevent. If you don't mind having these questions occupy your mind and itch at you, enjoy them take care, bye.
That's is not logical to me. Everything is simply everything while nothing (or nothingness) is the total absence of anything (nothing exists).
Enmos, for me it's that everything matters while you are alive, matters incredibly, but once you're gone, nothing matters, not even the pain you felt before you died. If the world evaporated tomorrow, no, it just wouldn't matter. Nobody is around to lament the loss.
lol what do you mean ? Maybe I'm just a bit too good at disconnecting myself. That could be a bad thing :scratchin:
I realized that my story with the clay dog might be misleading. It does not have to be a discrete traumatic incident. Ongoing long terms 'training' through the culture, education, parenting, can teach us certain things about us that are functionally just like traumas, even though no single moment seems more than slightly unpleasant or confusing. I notice now you did not address whether this 'if' is meaningful or relevent. You are choosing to mull over this rather than mulling over something else or even doing something else. Why does this get priority?
You seem to think like a theist, but with an absent god. You said earlier: - as if there needs to be someone else if we are to matter.
I don't know. That's all fine and well. What started off this line of reasoning was that dictionary definition of the Universe and me wondering whether it is adequate. We can set up a logically consistent set of premises, yes, but this does not yet guarantee that they will be true or adequate to reality. It is logical only if we use particular premises. We could use some other premises which don't lead to the same conclusion as above. For example: The Universe is eternal. The Universe can not disappear. Beings have eternal positions in the Universe. - such premises would lead to completely different conclusions than you came to.
Well, I just thought I'd bring it up.. No priorities or anything.. I don't ask you why you started a specific thread and why that topic gets priority.. I think you are trying to read too much into this. In the mean time it seems like some people are deliberately dodging some of my questions, in particular Green.. Oh well.. I didn't really expect to be taken seriously on this anyway. I'm probably wrong too.
Theist ? No sir.. and I really don't see how you mean that. Well, yes.. if nobody cares about a particular something then that something does not matter.
