Do you really believe that? After the 9/11 attacks, a national state of emergency was declared in America, and at all the airports in the country, any Asian/Muslim people could be detained for up to 7 days without any evidence to suggest their guilt. Democracy? Freedom? Hardly.

Did you learn every province, state and territory of every country in the world?
If not, doesn't the fact that you learned the ones in American just lend creedence to the self absorbed and sanctimonious American attitudes?

 

Most of us are to busy playing with our "toys" (or ourselves) to concern ourselves with the rest of the world. There's hardly any self discipline in the U.S.

Except when it comes to "earning" money. Then anything goes. At least we are free to be stupid or whatever we want to be.

 

You Americans are indescribable and place no value on non-American life. You protest at the soldiers dying in Iraq, but thousands more Iraqis are dead than the number of soldiers even wounded. And remember, you invaded Iraq, not the other way around.

 

OK I give up. I'm not really American.

FreeThinkers - half the people in the thread enjoy taking the piss, so don't take everything (tempted to say anything) they say seriously.

I didn't get taught where countries were in school. Maybe a handful, like the UK and how it's divided into England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales. Ireland's seperate and look, over to the right of that lot is France and Europe. We didn't need to learn the capitals and learn where countries are. I learned over the years by myself without trying.

What I don't understand is - you soak up information in life. Even if you deliberately tried not to, you learn simple things from watching TV, reading a newspaper, reading a book, etc. It seems odd that people would have no idea where a country was. It's beyond ignorance not knowing that France is in Europe, which is that mass of small countries with lots of jaggy bits on a world map. It's as if it's on purpose. Still, thank fuck you tend to only meet educated and interesting Americans in most foreign countries.

 

Those are states, not provinces, for example, the Republic of Ireland and the North are two seperate states, but the 32 contaithe of Ireland are just irrelevant divisions that have always been there but serve no purpose. The US is like the EU, a united group of countries/states.

 

Yeah it's actually quite funny because America is just a large mass at the left edge of our European maps

We have millions of poor, starving and homeless people in this country, and we do almost nothing to help them.
Decent helthcare is just about impossible to afford.

Can someone explain to me what the S.A.T.s are and how they work? I know they are an exam taken in secondary school in America and are used to get into university, but what do they test you on?

We place more value on freedom than life, even american life. For someone that didn't want to be offensive you're doing a good job. We knew enough geography to find and free europe from Hitler. And we understood the threat of the U.S.S.R. and how much of the territory they had control over.

 

Directly tied to the actions of the people of the copuntry I live in.
