Scientists have discovered a new human-like species in a burial chamber deep in a cave system in South Africa.

The discovery of 15 partial skeletons is the largest single discovery of its type in Africa.

The researchers claim that the discovery will change ideas about our human ancestors.

The studies which have been published in the journal Elife also indicate that these individuals were capable of ritual behaviour.

At first I thought they were named after a type of water sprite, but that would be naiad. Naled is an insecticide.

Yes and of special interest is fact only a thin person crawling thru passage way cracks about a foot high can get to the burial chamber. - IE the society had complex burial rituals and ropes to pull the dead body thru these tight spaces.

So in what subgroup is this one gone to fit or is it going to be an other sub-subgroup. It seams they were more civilised then just abandon their death for food to other animals.

We are H. sapiens sapiens and a second extinct subspecies is H. sapiens idaltu. This is a distinct species.

Yes, burial of the dead is a remarkable find.

We are living in an era of unprecedented discovery.
