    Guh. More slander. Anyway: any press is good press, even bad press, so I thank Sam for her indirect support. A vote for Geoff is something Sam gives.

    Everyone's a critic. Fine then: I nominate myself for the position of Moderator of Free Thoughts. I thought I was being colourful.

    Anyway: my post, while colourful (yes) was indeed not really completely facetious. Sure: Free Thoughts ought to be free. It is the testing ground for madness that spreads to the rest of the forum, or should be. So, one expects a certain, how you say, feu de tête. And, anyway, as a moderator, I couldn't bring myself to blasting people for disagreeing with me. I'd certainly be ethical, upholding the forum regs. How could I do else?

    In short, I could not in good faith use my power for evil. Simple as that.

    Let me give everyone else some advice. What we want from the members is not why you think whatever individual is an idiot, etc. What we want are thoughts as to why you think those nominated would not good moderators of the Free Thoughts forum and vice versa.

    Just because you don't like them because they hold the opposing view to you whether it be for political or religious reasons is really beside the point. Whether you like them personally is beside the point. This is not a popularity contest.

    Those who have nominated themselves also need to state why they would be a good moderator. You need to state your case.

    You were not here when we did vote for moderators and it was a popularity contest. The results were, for the most part, a disaster.

    The Administration want to know why members think or don't think someone would be suitable. They don't want to know that someone is suitable because you think they are funny or because you like them or love them, or because they are your best friend on this site and you're voting for them for that reason.

    That has been my impression of you on this forum since you joined. We might not always agree on everything, but I know that you are fair.

    Free Thoughts is a busy forum with a lot of posts and threads that sometimes require a lot of culling, either by mass deletes or sending to Cesspool. As a result, you may find yourself in the position of being abused and accused. Are you prepared to become a pariah on this site? Are you prepared to have others malign you because they deemed your moderation to be unfair to them? Are you prepared to have some members follow you around the forum accusing you of being a bad moderator because you deleted or cesspooled their post/thread or issued them or someone they like a warning or a ban?

    If you or anyone else wants to become a moderator, you need to consider the above. You need to realise that by becoming a moderator, there will be a few on this site who will instantly hate you and start to judge you. If you can cope with that, then nominate yourself. Yes, it is just Free Thoughts, but people have a way of taking things way too personally.

    The same applies for everyone who has nominated themselves.
