And how do they not get the best of both worlds?? My step-mom and sisters are Lakota Sioux from Pine Ridge reservation, one of the poorest. My college roommate is Santee Sioux. Its what they make of it. They get a free ride to college if they want it. They have their own gvmt. They get aid from both. They get houses built for them.

Do we do that for black people? Do people feel sorry for black people?

There it is.
Even when Native Americans leave the reservation to go to college for free, they still get a check for being Native American. Free money and a free education. Its their own damn fault if they drink it all away or decide they want to live on the reservation in a free house.

For an example less alien, try the Pakistan/Pashtun tribal regions. People tell me the legal setup and political arrangements are similar in some ways.

It's probable that most of the descendants of the red tribes live among the rest of the Americans, off the reservation lands, and without tribal identification. My grandmother's descendants (Blackfoot, not Cherokee), for example, are in every legal sense standard whites.

We (my brothers and I) think the Scotch-Irish should have applied for tribal status when the option was there. Either that, or try to trace how a Blackfoot red ended up in Buffalo, New York, in the 1920s.
