    yes sam
all that is true but surely you have asked yourself ......why?

i mean, we left wing loons understood osama's justifications, accepted the blowback and hoped to effect a change in m.e policy, ie, one that was not tilted towards israel but rather a balanced and nuanced policy

we of course learned how unamerican and treasonous all that was so quickly shut the fuck up

    lets try another tack.......

Whatever the impact Islam may have on contemporary political outcomes, it clearly cannot account for the Arab world's democracy deficit. Democratization has progressed significantly in a number of non-Arab Islamic states (e.g. Turkey, Indonesia and even Iran). Indeed, two prominent experts on democracy contend that, "contrary to widely-held belief, most of the world's Muslims already live under democratically elected governments."

While this reckoning may take into account that a small minority live in Western democracies, it underscores that the broad uniformity in state-society relations that exists today in the Arab world cannot be attributed solely, or even primarily, to Islamic culture.

To be sure, radical Islamist opposition groups that espouse ideas inimical to democracy[20] are very popular in most Arab countries, but it is by no means clear that this is primarily an outgrowth of culture. The absence of institutionalized channels of political participation always makes it easier for underground radical movements to gain support from disaffected sectors of the populations. Oppression by secular authoritarian regimes naturally enhances the attractiveness of untried Islamist rule as an alternative. It is significant that the one Muslim country in the world where Islamic fundamentalism in on the decline is Iran - where Islamist rule has been tried (and rejected by most of the population) as an alternative.

Moreover, it is not clear that the anti-democratic views and popularity of radical Islamist groups in the Arab world pose a major obstacle to democratization. In the aftermath of World War II, most European countries had Marxist-Leninist parties that espoused an ideology fundamentally opposed to liberal democratic ideals and commanded the loyalty of a substantial portion of the electorate. By and large, these parties abided by the rules of democracy, even after repeated failures to win majorities in elections.

Even the argument that radical Islamic groups inhibit democracy by providing authoritarian governments with a pretext to rule with an iron fist is questionable. Variation in the political and military strength of Islamist groups, both between and within countries over time, does not appear to correlate closely with the level of political and civil liberties permitted by Arab governments. and it is all whiteys fault, eh dh?

I ask posters to not engage in personal attacks nor a flame war and look what happens.

Gustav, Kadark hasn't taught you your lesson?

As far as most Muslim countries being democracies, please tell me how many of the Arab states are democracies. I can only think of one, that is Lebanon.

Most of the power structure in the Muslim world is still controlled by secularist elites who are more willing to befriend and work for foreign governments over the wishes and aspirations of their people. The US, like it did in South America, is supporting corrupt leaders in the Middle east. Look at the war criminals they put in charge in Iraq and Afghanistan, Nuri al-Maliki and Karzai.

    so what are you?
    a paki .....pakistani?

    here
    lets bond

Pakistan just got their new Chinese fighter planes and sent a squadron of pilots there for training.
'Ok, this one is easy to fly', said the Chinese trainer, 'even you fools should be able to operate it! You press this button to go up, this one to go left and this one for turning right!'
'But how do we come down?' asked Capt. Arfath Pasha.
'Oh,' said the Chinese 'leave that to the Indian Air Force!'
    --------------------------------------------------------------

A Pakistani tourist after a long walk in one of very fancy clean streets of Delhi found himself needing to urinate badly. After a long search he could not find any place to you-know, and eventually couldn't control himself and chose a silent corner of a clean street to release himself.
As soon as he had just started you-know-what, a Delhi police official approached him, 'Hey, What do you think you're doing here?'
Pakistani tourist: 'Sorry I have to Pee'
Police : 'No PP here okay ? Follow me.'
The Police officer took him to a beautiful garden nearby with lots of grass, flowers and singing birds around.
Police: 'PP here..... and have a nice day'.
Pakistani tourist : 'Oh Sir, ....... that's very nice of you, is this Indian courtesy?'
Police: 'No.......this is The Pakistani Embassy!'
    --------------------------------------------------------------

What do you call 5 pakistanis driving down a hill in an opel astra???
Ans: A damn shame! they could have fit 6....
    --------------------------------------------------------------

How come all the paki jokes are 1 liners

    - They do not deserve more...
    --------------------------------------------------------------

Two guys, an Indian, a Pakistani are out walking together one day. These 2 guys come across a lantern. When they rub it, a Genie pops out of it.
'I will give you each one wish, that's two wishes total,' says the Genie.
The Pakistani said, 'I want a wall around Pakistan, so that no neighbors or infidels can come into our Paki land.' With a blink of the Genie's eye, 'POOF' there was a huge wall around Pakistan.
'Hmmmm', the Indian asks, 'I'm very curious. Please tell me more about this wall.' The Genie explains, 'Well, it's about 150 feet high, 50 feet thick and completely surrounds Pakistan. Nothing can get in or out.'
So the Indian says, 'Fill it up with water.'
    --------------------------------------------------------------

A brain tumor patient with end-stage disease was informed that he needed an immediate brain transplant operation. The surgeon told him, 'You can have an Indian brain for $10,000 dollars or an American's for $25,000dollars or I can give you 10 gms. of a Paki's brain for $100,000 dollars.'
The patient asked,'Why is the Paki's brain so much more expensive than the others?'
Well,' replied the surgeon, 'we have to go through a lot of Pakistanis to find 10 gms of brain.'

So you ARE Indian. Now I understand why you are so racist against Muslims.

I have no problem with Indians, I have many Indian friends but some Indians cannot think logically when it relates to Indian Muslims, Pakistanis, or Islam.

Anyway, what is your purpose in this thread, to increase hatred of Muslims?

Islam is not a race, it's a religion.

As I have already explained to you, racism is a term designed to serve the interests of the economic elites in post-empire industrial nations as they attempt to integrate their non-white populations and create a class of servile consumers.

Everyone in Asia is 'racist', simply because there are so few members of other races living and working there. 'Racism' is the default mode of human civilization, and a behavioral expression which reinforces what we find naturally occurring in the world.

I wonder why D.H. doesn't respond to this?

Edit: Given the comments of the sheik, is it any wonder that we find Muslims like D.H. so eager to embrace concepts like 'racism'?

I disagree with that. Racism existed for most of human history and has been demonstrated as a cause of or an effect of such events as the Crusades, European Slave trade, Colonist occupation of the Muslim world and other Non-white regions by European powers, and now in the Neo-Imperialistic wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.

Racism is, and will remain, one of the foremost causes of distrust and hatred against Muslim countries and Muslim populations.

You have never been to Southwestern or Central Asia I presume. To define all of Asia as one entity is naive. Muslim cultures in the Asian and African continents tend to be multicultural. Pakistan and the Maghrib countries like Morocco and Algeria are prime examples of this.

As far as South Asia, Muslims are seen by Hindus as a race, though the vast majority of Muslims are descendants of native Indian groups such as Punjabis, Sindis, Kashmiris, etc.. Converting to Islam in India is still referred to as "turning into a Turk."

In essence, hatred of Islam can, and does, have racist dimensions. You are an example of this.

    It's simply not racist.

I hate their ideology and their religion, not their ethnicity.

The Arab slave trade was the practice of slavery in West Asia, North Africa, East Africa, and certain parts of Europe (such as Sicily and Iberia) during their period of domination by Arab leaders. The trade mostly involved North and East Africans and Middle Eastern peoples (Arabs, Berbers, etc.). Also, the Arab slave trade was not limited to people of certain color, ethnicity, or religion. In the early days of the Islamic state—during the 8th and 9th centuries—most of the slaves were Slavic Eastern Europeans (called Saqaliba), people from surrounding Mediterranean areas, Persians, Turks, other neighbouring Middle Eastern peoples, peoples from the Caucasus Mountain regions (such as Georgia and Armenia) and parts of Central Asia, Berbers, and various other peoples of varied origins as well as those of Black African origins.

The medieval slave trade in Europe was mainly to the East and South: The Byzantine Empire and the Muslim World were the destinations, pagan Central and Eastern Europe an important source. Slavery in medieval Europe was so common that the Roman Catholic Church repeatedly prohibited it— or at least the export of Christian slaves to non-Christian lands was prohibited at, for example, the Council of Koblenz in 922, the Council of London in 1102, and the Council of Armagh in 1171. Viking, Arab, Greek and Jewish merchants (known as Radhanites) were all involved in the slave trade during the Early Middle Ages.

Periodic raiding expeditions were sent from Islamic Iberia to ravage the Christian Iberian kingdoms, bringing back booty and slaves. In a raid against Lisbon in 1189 CE, for example, the Almohad caliph Yaqub al-Mansur took 3,000 female and child captives, while his governor of Córdoba, in a subsequent attack upon Silves in 1191 CE, took 3,000 Christian slaves.

According to Robert Davis between 1 million and 1.25 million Europeans were captured by Barbary pirates, who were vassals of the Ottoman Empire, and sold as slaves between the 16th and 19th centuries. These slaves were captured mainly from seaside villages from Italy, Spain, Portugal and also from more distant places like France or England, the Netherlands, Ireland and even Iceland and North America. The impact of these attacks was devastating – France, England, and Spain each lost thousands of ships, and long stretches of the Spanish and Italian coasts were almost completely abandoned by their inhabitants. Pirate raids discouraged settlement along the coast until the 19th century. (wiki shit)

    OPPONENTS: France v. England

PROVOCATION: When bearded King Louis VII of France was married to Eleanor, daughter of a French duke, he received a dowry of 2 provinces in southern France. Coming home from the Crusades, King Louis VII shaved off his beard. Wife Eleanor said he was ugly without beard. He refused to grow whiskers back. Eleanor divorced him, married King Henry II of England, demanded return of her dowry of 2 provinces for new husband. King Louis would not release them. King Henry declared war to regain dowry by force.

RESULT: The war raged 301 years. Peace declared in 1453, after Battle of Rouen

About the causes and results of the Opium War between England and China, started when the English dumped opium on Chinese markets.

    YEAR: 1840

    WAR: The Opium War

    PLACE: China

    OPPONENTS: England v. China

PROVOCATION: The East India Company of England, suffering an adverse balance of trade with China, decided to make up its financial losses by pouring illegal opium into China for some quick profits. The Chinese imperial commissioner, Lin Tze-su, ordered all British opium destroyed. England declared war.

RESULT: British gunboats smashed Chinese fortifications. In 1842, China surrendered, was forced to give up Hong Kong (meaning "sweet stream") to the British and pay a $21 million indemnity. And the British continued to pour opium into China. In 1900, the Chinese tried to get their revenge, and were humiliated. The Boxers (actual name Righteousness and Harmony Society, and having nothing to do with boxing, except Chinese word for "society" sounds like "fist"), a secret organization of 40,000 patriotic militants, tried to throw foreigners out of their country. England, U.S., Germany, Russia, France, Japan sent in 16,000 troops to put down the Boxer Rebellion, and succeeded. The Chinese had to pay an indemnity running into millions of dollars (although the U.S. returned about 12 million, half of its indemnity, to China), had to give Hong Kong up to the British, and had to allow foreign nations to establish legation quarters and troops in Peking. It was not until 6 decades later that China got even. In 1965, Premier Chou En-lai, of the People's Republic of China, speaking to President Gamal Abdel Nasser, of Egypt, explained one reason for the demoralization of American troops in South Vietnam: "Some of them are trying opium, and we are helping them. We are planting the best kinds of opium especially for the American soldiers in Vietnam... Do you remember when the West imposed opium on us? They fought us with opium. And we are going to fight them with their own weapons."

About the cause of the Sepoy Mutiny in India between English and Indian soldiers when Muslim and Hindu troops refused on relgious grounds to use rifles that used pig and cow parts.

    YEAR: 1857

    WAR: The Sepoy Mutiny

    PLACE: India

OPPONENTS: England v. British Indian regiments

PROVOCATION: England's best native regiments were the Sepoys, Hindu soldiers who were Mohammedans and Brahmans. England insisted these troops use the new Enfield rifle, which had cartridges that had to be bitten off before loading. The cartridges were greased with lard (pig fat) and tallow (cow fat). Moslems were forbidden to taste lard, and Brahmans held the cow sacred. Most Indians refused to use the rifle. Some were jailed in Meerut. Their comrades mutinied, freed them, slaughtered and mutilated hundreds of English in Cawnpore, Delhi, Lucknow. Current Day Note: The cow is still sacred in India. "The cow is a poem of pity," said Gandhi. "Protection of the cow means protection of the whole dumb creation of God." A third of the world's cattle are in India. In Kashmir, to kill a cow even accidentally means 7 years in prison.

RESULT: England crushed the mutiny, and India came totally under the British Crown.
