I want to know what everyone thinks about this film.

I thought it was bad, very bad. Ask and I may tell you why

But this is about what YOU think

    Right..... Here goes:

People claim it was very fast paced. Yeah right. It was the most slow paced film I've ever had the misfortune to see. It was like 5min fight scene, hour talking, 20min fight scene, hour talking, 20min fight scene, 10min talking, end of film

The special effects aren't that good. That cave troll looked quite poor, especially when that Elf guy jumped on its back

The story was poor. They should have made the original Hobbit books into films.

I have loads more, can't think of them now. But that film is VERY over-rated

I reminded me of the movie Willow some. A traveling midget who ditches his midet friend/s and gets a non-midget friend while on his journey who is scary at first. Although I liked Willow better.

I didn't care much for the story line either.

    Yes, I liked Willow too.
I think the film is better if you have read the books, or?
I haven't read them, but still like it. Or maybe it's the other way around, that those who have read the books expect too much.

    LOTR rocks!

Ok, I admit the first time I read the books, I was bored to death. But now, I really really like it, especially after the film. Even if I think Tolkien is slightly off his rocker (he was way too into his own fiction), Lord of the Rings is an enjoyable read, and it's becoming a great epic trilogy.

The first hour probably pissed people off the most, because it's all about the darn hobbits running around and being frightened, but I found the rest exciting.

The building up of plot and character is slow of course, Fellowship of the Ring being the first in a trilogy, but the rest is going to be so much more. The Two Towers promises more blood n' gore, and the movement of forces across Middle-earth to battle evil, and crazy junk like that.

My friend who hated Lord of the Rings (whom I dragged along with me to see

) even told me it was one of the best fantasy movies she's ever seen. On the other hand, another friend who's obsessed with the fictional works of Mercedes Lackey absolutely abhored LoTR...

I guess one of the main factors my friends kept going back to see LOTR over again is because of Legolas, the elf. Something about a hot guy in a silver-blonde wig shooting arrows...? lol

(what am I talking about..?) The set designs were spectacular, they actually built all the stuff and tried to do as little CGI as possible
    - costumes were laboured over, especially the masks of each Orc, because they were all original works of art
    - use of the latest CGI for Gollum, to make him as life-like as possible
    - beautiful scenery of New Zealand (another note: Canada beat New Zealand 75-72! Yeah!)
    - superb musical scores by Howard Shore, and Enya

I've never heard anyone claim it was fast paced... and it doesnt need to be. As for "the story was poor", well it WAS based on the best fantasy books ever written...i guess if thats someone's idea of a poor story then oh well, you can't please everyone.

I'm wondering, did you ever read the books? Maybe i liked the movie better because i had already read the books... I thought it was very good and the best adaptation of a book into a movie i know of.

    I really liked it.

You're right about the troll and there are imperfections in other scenes too.

I liked the introduction, the pace and the fighting.

I must say that I went with a big back of popcorn and a diet coke, not with the Tolkien book in one hand and a critics pen in the other.

    (seemingly)impossible task

I havent seen the movie yet but have read the books many a time & I think the magical nature of these characters & events make it a hard task for film to capture. Most movies today are pretty graphic intensive to bring us close to what the writers are trying to portray.. but who has can with the mind's eye see these characters, exactly, we all expect different things because that is where these characters belong, in a place we can't quite reach, so take it for what it is & enough said already

I haven't been able to read a fantasy book besides Alice in Wonderland in ages. The whole genre never really appealed to me, I couldn't find anything truly interesting in it. Lord Of The Rings I could only read the first two books, and the second one took me ages to make my way through.

The movies were of little difference to me. I don't like fantasy but I did manage to enjoy LOTR for a number of reasons.

    - The story line is interesting (though more so in the second one in my opinion)
    - The acting was for the most part good and at times brilliant
    - The directing was interesting to follow because, as we all know, there is huuuuuuge pressure in directing LOTR movies
    - New Zealand is gorgeous

I didn't care for the special affects as, being a non-fantasy fan, I find monsters cheapen a movie usually. Still, LOTR was a good movie. What it is not is a brilliant or otherwise top-tier film. There was only one actor in it who was truly brilliant, the script was good but not great and the story line had no true meaning or emotion yet. The second book for me was more interesting partially because you get so much of a deeper look into the emotions and nature of the focus characters and I assume the movies will be like that too.

i watched it for the first time yesterday....

and i fell asleep.. it was slow.. and... there were so many dramatic significant parts.. that the movie was mostly dramatic and significant.. which made none of it REALLY that dramatic or significant. .. also.. who in their right mind cast elijah wood? its more interesting to follow a characters life if they are atleast somewhat attractive. but what can i say.. i was hoping for 'highlander' and ended up with 'harry potter'.

a movie made after a book doesn't mean its just like the book. Look at 'Queen Of The Damned'. a not too bad movie.. but if you read the books first.. its a slottered mess.

you can't shove three books into one, that proceed a first book, put it into a movie with diferent characters... NOT call it a sequel becuase you cant get the smae characters in the cast, and then expect it to make sense... i went opening night.. the movie overall was nice.. but personally.. i was pretty pissed.
