    I cannot "support" the deaths of any innocent people. However, I can understand and empathize with the Israeli need to protect themselves. The Palestinians aren't fighting for their lives, but for ideological reasons.

    It's more complicated than that. The Palestinians consider Gaza and the West Bank their land. They consider that Israel has no right to it. They consider that they are fighting to protect their homeland. Now, perhaps you consider that "ideological", but I wonder if you would do the same thing if you thought your home was threatened.

    And another thing: all this talk of "the Israelis" and "the Palestinians" is a vast oversimplification in itself. Not all Israelis think the same way about Palestine, and there are also many different views about Israel among different Palestinians. Moreover, there is a range of different ideas about how the "problem" might be solved, on both sides.

    Unfortunately, what tends to dominate the news are the groups (on both sides) who think that violence is the solution, despite the fact that it hasn't worked for the last 40 years.
