Mod Note

This is the Human Science sub-forum.

Not the new age 'I wanna hug a Chrystal, ascend to higher plains spiritual' sub-forum. Please keep your woo woo bullcrap outside of the SCIENCE forums.

Considering you have been banned twice now for abusing and threatening people on this site, you do not put too much sway on the "happiness" of people like yourself.

Science is about the realities of life. If that bothers you, then I would suggest you stop posting on a SCIENCE site about your moronic and idiotic personal philosophical beliefs and find a forum that will cater to your woo woo needs. In short, stop spreading it here and acting as if it is reality. It is only reality for people who have consumed too many happy mushrooms, are high or are mentally ill. And perhaps that is the case. And if that is the case, perhaps you should put your chrystals down and find a very good psychiatrist, so they can medicate you and bring you back to reality.

Until that happens, stop posting woo woo crap in the science forums.

The first post in the thread referenced astrology. So I thought that was part of the conversation.

Anyway, you sound angry. Maybe you should try holding a crystal until you calm down. Here is one for you. Then you can compare it with the anti-anxity medication your using, or should be using.

    As for the thread topic..

Psychology is a science, as it involves the scientific study and observation of behaviour and mental function. It is an applied scientific discipline.

Astrology, as even Wiki puts it, "comprises several systems of divination based on the premise that there is a relationship between astronomical phenomena and events in the human world".

They are not even close. One is woowoo and classified as a pseudoscience, since nothing has ever been proven, while the other is actual science. I don't think I need to point out which is which.

Psychological experiments, with predictions and theories, aren't a new idea that came from evolutionary psychologists.

"Just" psychologists (which often are "evolutionary" in a more implied sense, only not deriving their theories so much from evolutionary hypothesis but dealing mostly with more "proximal" causal explanations, not "ultimate) and other cognitive scientists will often argue that evolutionary psychologists are doing bad science in some cases. Often there is a set of observations, that can be "explained" by some evolutionary reasoning, but at the same time it can be explained by a significantly different evolutionary reasoning, or yet, one could skip the evolutionary roots altogether and still explain it satisfactorily, perhaps even more parsimoniously (while never rejecting evolution). Or yet, there could be substantial problems with the experimental design and evidence gathered, which is far more damaging for evolutionary explanations than for "just" psychology, that can more comfortably put itself as speaking only of the observed conditions and the specific subject sample, rather than aiming to speak about human nature and universals (generalizing often from US college students).

Related to some "brands" of evolutionary psychology (Pinker's type), or some of its foundational assumptions:

Modules Genes and Evolution -- Annette Karmiloff-Smith, Ph.D. discusses insights gained from developmental disorders into how genes and evolution have shaped the brain and cognitive processing. Yes, that is called "hypocrisy" you should look up that word so you understand the meaning. When you sit there spewing your disdain for science in favor of fantasy and delusion, don't be telling us you take advantage of science when you can, that is hypocrisy.

    And, it shows, in spades.

Yes, there are other forums that embrace fantasy and delusion, as well as hypocrisy. Sorry, if you believe reality makes people hostile, but you're mistaking hostility for uncontrolled laughter.

Yes, that would be your religious beliefs causing you to fight and cause conflict. Perhaps, if you go back on your meds...

Then, if you want to walk the walk, go live in a cave with your crystals and get rid of your computer and internet connection.

No one cares if you want to waste money on delusions. However, spewing your disdain at science while taking advantage of science simply makes you look like a complete ass.

I'm a moderator and it's my job to keep bullshit off of our discussion boards. So yes, I'm very hostile to people who continue to post bullshit on our discussion boards.

I've had my share of sadness but in aggregate my life has been quite happy.

No. Science is the practice of figuring out how the universe works. And atheism is merely the practice of leading humanity out of the Stone Age. Most of the wars of the last half-millennium have been caused by religion. I'd say that it's time to put an end to this bullshit.

[And before you respond by yelling "communism!" allow me to remind you that communism is an offshoot of Christianity. Karl Marx was a devout Christian and, "To each according to his needs, from each according to his ability," is an elaboration of his favorite line in the Book of Acts. Communism is a fairytale economic system invented by a man who believed in fairytales. Can you imagine any self-respecting Jew, Hindu or Confucian insisting with a straight face that a civilization can survive if what a man takes from it need not correlate with what he gives back?"]

It's rather amusing for YOU to call someone else angry. YOU fly off the handle and start screaming at us about once a day.

The thread is comparing psychology to astrology. Astrology is a catch all for what you call "woo". I am making the argument that woo is healthier and better for some people than psychology. That's when the moderators started flying off the handle.
On the subject of mental health, I would say that science is still in the dark ages. In case you hadn't noticed, billions and billions of human beings are happy with their religions. It's you, the other moderators, and pin heads like Richard Dawkins who are spiritually blind and oblivious.

Communism is a twisted and evil version "help your neighbor".
I'm feeling happier now that I've held my crystals and gotten some love from God/ascended masters. it made me realize what the problem was with psychology. Psychology only studies problems of the mind, but it's very ineffective at actually healing the human mind (and heart).

That fact that you have chosen to live your life in fantasy and delusion is your choice, that is, unless you have serious mental disorders and are unable to control yourself. I suspect the latter based on your emotional outbursts here. Perhaps, you are dangerous to society and should seek out professional help.

But, many of us choose to live our lives in reality and understand completely why folks like yourself can't handle reality and are compelled to say things about it that are completely false.

Perhaps, one day you'll go back on your meds and begin to join reality once again. One can only hope for the best.
