Intelligent people are genetically predisposed to be healthier. It's the finding of scientists from University of Edinburgh, who have discovered that the same gene variants which make people smart, also protect them against illness. Those who performed the best on memory, verbal reasoning and reaction time tests, were less likely to have genes linked to high blood pressure, develop diseases like Alzheimer’s, diabetes or have poor overall health. They were also likely to be taller and have larger brains. The only conditions that intelligence appeared to increase were schizophrenia, autism and bipolar disorder. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/sci...predisposed-to-be-healthier-experts-find.html
What a ghastly, sanctimonious article - and how wrong almost every assertion in it is! .....Unless of course the adjective "smart" is to be defined as applying to people who meet those criteria, rather than being a synonym for "intelligent".
What is funny about this is that it states something that here in the UK it is forbidden to mention - that intelligence is at least partly inherited. The whole tenor of our educational politics presumes everything is due to environment. Any educationist who dares to hint that middle class parents tender to have brighter children than working class parents is vilified. And yet, that is exactly what one ought to expect, and what has been obvious to generations of teachers.
Where does anyone get off saying bigger brains equal more IQ? That has never been proven, just look at Einstein's brain it was of medium size.
Er, suggest you read what was written. This said that there was, indeed, a correlation in the study between brain size and intelligence. But perhaps you can cite a counterexample indicating no correlation, can you?
