I don't actually have time to list all the reasons why a spiritual explanation for psychological mechanisms is wrong.

But I did mention before a couple of reasons.

So there is no room in anyones mind in what we call "psychology" Of mind, in mind, at the deepest levels of the subconscious, spoken or unspoken...

There is this spirituality. You will never truly understand your "patience" unless you can see their spirituality. Otherwise at times you are just treating the symptoms and pay no regard to their innermost thoughts. You begin to contain not this emotion of EMPATHY which is what drives the mind to accomplish certain tasks in his life.

You have to help them remember the good on their own. By talking. From there you see the problem and fix it, as best as you can. Most of the time it ends with a joke(= you might be able to get them to talk to you... But thats not hard. Its just how well you are listening between times that allows you to insert an opposing viewpoint in another.

Lets hear your thoughts on the highlighted words. Which one do you think I highlighted most out of anger or "miss-understanding". I say, I psychoanalyze "it" all.

I feel angry... I wish someone could tell me why.

i was told by a psychologist a long time ago..

    LOL (I don't know)

there said it... that was a long time:itold:

so here is a completely hypothetical scenario that you may run across in the field of psychology.

If I were to say, "I'm god" what would your response be?:bugeye:

Sorry guys but your questions are a waste of time.

I do love how unqualified people are trying to tell me how to treat my patients though.... just brilliant.

Last time I said I don't know. Was about 1 hour ago. I said I don't know what alternative research design I can formulate to operationalize the variations of the distinctive characteristics construct involved in a prisoners line up, in such a way that will remove potential demand characteristics.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

becuase you up to all my standards and no person on the face of this earth has ever made that claim before...

I'll take that as both the wrong answer and (I Don't Know)

Your patient walks away more confused...

I said this question was a waste of time, but apparently that means I don't know the answer... luckily it's the weekend now and I actually have the time to reply, so here's the answer...

Send to a psychiatrist to be prescribed drugs for schizophrenia. I've actually met a guy that used to think he had super human powers and he was extremely spiritual. After being treated for schizophrenia he no longer thinks any of that, although he is still a christian, so I guess the meds don't remove all delusions.

As for what I would do as a psychologist, I might try some cbt or something like that, but it's pretty useless. When you are dealing with serious psychopathology, there is very little that a psychologist can do a lot of the time. As the guy in the above example said to me, the psychologist did nothing to help, it was only the medication that helped me.

That guy now has a wife and is living a really good life. It's actually a really inspiring case, a lot of people in that situation don't see themselves ever getting better.

    Sounds like a good story.

What do you think led him to believe such a thing?

i am mediphobic..(if thats actually a word) i tend to avoid medicines..the only thing i take now is tagament for indigestion/reflux and melatonin to help me sleep, i was prescribed welbutrin at one time but prescription ran out and they didn't really do anything for me..

i am really concerned about the abuse of doctors prescribing medicine for everything..that and i do not trust medicine to address just the specific problem..IOW most medicines take the shotgun approach,it affects more than just the problem..(and it doesn't help that i just read an article in Scientific America about this)

as far as what i think moose is after..especially on this forum..is whether you treat the users like patients or not..being a psychologist it applies not just to your patients but to everyone you come in contact with.(to one degree or another)

    Hey Squirrel,

That question doesn't make sense to me?

None of my business, but I believe he actually said, "Your questions are a waste of my time". Not "You...".

    Just sayin'.

Here's a common problem I see. People remembering their impressions of the words and not the words themselves. Without visual cues and tone of voice, all we have to go on are the actual words.

You guys were asking questions about spirituality and why that isn't a valid explanation for psychological phenomenon... Those sort of questions are a waste of my time, and I'm very busy at the moment. Though I do like coming on here every so often just have a break from study or a quick 5 min break from work.

I don't mind answering intelligent questions.

"yea.he did..but it usually translates to 'you'"

So I say that your questions are a waste of time. And then you accuse me of possibly treating my patients badly by telling them that they are a waste of time.

You are waaaaaaay off base. Unlike a lot of psychologists and counsellors out there, I actually listen and care and empathise with my patients.

That was a really weird line of thought you had in reaction to my comment about waste of time questions.
