Blocalsteve posted this on another thread. Anybody round here smart enough to explain it to me?

    Test: can you be programmed?

I guessing for some reason 6 and carrot are similar or link in our neural network, I was thinking 6 so I move to something with a similar sound "s" and "c" are similar in usage and carrots are much more popular then celery so are easier to recall from your neurons. probably because of how most learned English... to test this ask people whose first language is not English... we should see a drop in number of people who say carrots.

I remember one involving some number crunching and then you are ask to say a random number and 90% say 7.

I was thinking a cucumber actually.
What else do we 2% people share.
I suppose if fallacy is the issue, cucumber still apllies
If intelligence is the issue i am coincidently in the 2% percentile range.
do you, know of another pattern amidst the minority.

I just took a grueling financial instituions test, and really needed some sleep, so I figured whatever trick that was supposed to be pulled would easily get me in this state... but I picked tomatoe.... is that even a vegetable? I think I may have been close too saying celery though... maybe because a 6 looks round like a tomatoe or something... what the hell is wrong with me

The stuff about the number 6 is irrelevant. Most people, when asked to name a vegetable, will say "carrot". I'm not sure why.

I named carrot because it's the only veggie that I know for sure is a veggie. I think tomato is a fruit, but it might not be. Carrots are much different than any fruits and they are also very popular.

i thought of cucumber, or that other crunchy greeenish vegetable that looks like a cucumber - more crunchy.

but i reckon carrot could be like 6 because:

    sixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsix
    sounds like carretscarretscarretscarretscarrets...
    (carrots-phonetically carrets)

Tomatoes are a Fruit and Lettuce is most definitely a vegetable.

The reason a tomato is a fruit is due to the fact that it's how the plant Seeds, where as other vegetables are Roots, Flowers or Leaves. (Mushrooms aren't actually a vegetable, they are a Fungus and fungal makeup is far different from vegetation.)

It is noted though that Potatoe plants can sometimes have tomatoes growing on them because they are different evolutionary paths of the same family (But supposedly Potatoe plant tomatoes can be poisonous).

So you end up with a Fruit & Vegetable bearing plant.

Cucumber is also a vegetable although is related to Cactii.(Cactus)

On another note Carrots were during wartime (WWII) in Europe used instead of Sugar, because carrots can be sweet. This was due to the Rationing as carrots were easier to grow, it could have something to do with Carrot being selected as one of the main vegetables that come to mind.

    I figured it out.....

....I can't believe it. I studied the test for a wail now and I finally found out why it makes us thing of a "carrot". You see normally people see this pattern ( >>>>>>>) and they get si-traked. Something "clicks" in their brain that makes them think of many things, but when it comes to picking a vegetable you choose carrot. it's hard to explain, but that's how it works. It's the same with Hypnoses. When someone Hypnotizes you there is an area in your brain that reacts to the process and starts working. Wail it's working the rest shuts down . But the area in your brain to follow directions increases. The same with the pattern. Something just "clicks". It's also kind of complicated, but I hope you get the point.

I got carrot. I was saying 666666, and kept thinking about the devil, and lots of fire, all the ususal stuff. I thought f a vegetable, and one of the flames in my mind looked like a carrot. carrot. there you go.

and cucumbers are fruit. they have distinct seeds within a fleshy "fruit".

I'm romanian...and I can tell you that the first thing we learnt about vegetables is that carrots are vegetables...so...I hardly can think of another vegetable...because in romanian we don't say "vegetable", we say "legume"...vegetable is like "vegetala", which in romanian means plant...so we make this connection to remember what a "vegetable" is : carrot="morcov"(in romanian) which is a "leguma"=vegetable...
But there's another test on that site...something with kangoroos in denmark and oranges...there i answered koala, denmark and apple...because at school we didn't learn too much about kangoroos and my mind was "free"...

Ok, I actually thought of a Radish, I have absolutely no Idea why but it doesnt matter.

I think that I have a theory that may work... Ok there is this guy that proposed a theory that our mind has a "shadow side," that we ourselves our never aware of, it what is put deep in the reccesses of your brain (to make you forget certain things that you yourself refuse to accept like childhood prejudice, this is also the part of your brain that is active in hypnosis) ok, as you scroll down you may not be aware (you can kind of see it in the corner of your eyes) but your shadow side is constantly recording the details, and since carrots are one of the most popular vegetable as proved in a recent Baylor Survey, and your shadow side is constantly recording those ">" (which look like a carrot) things then your brain makes a click somewhere in a unknown part of the cerebrum, that forces you to pick a carrot... However, for the 2% who dont think of a carrot then you probably are unaware of carrots, you have never eaten carrots, you dont care for carrots

Lamans Terms: If you havent experienced a carrot very very often and havent regarded it as extremely distasteful or extremely delicious then you wont think of a carrot, and your mind will think of some deluded akward thing

    This is very interesting!

I did the test above and indeed thought of carrot, also let me state that English is not my native language and that (as far as I can tell) the dutch word "wortel" came into behind before "carrot". .. I also have to mention the fact that before I thought of carrot I first thought of a bean (haricot verd) but in an instant I changed my mind to carrot without any logical reason I am aware of.

The shadow-side and shape theory is interesting (because of the >`s) and could hold some truth since haricots verds and carrots are more or less shaped the same way.. But then I`d expect far more people so say haricot verd as well..

And by the way, I don`t really like carrots.. So the preference-reason seems not to apply either in my case...

Maybe the 666 --> devil --> orange link makes some sense, I did indeed think about the develish 666 as well... This reason makes most sense in my case...

if it`s indeed true that 98% percent gets this association immediately then this very interesting! I`d sure like to know what the real scientific theory behind this is...
