a clapper is a type of switch that works by sound, so when your in bed you clap your hands and the lights go out (or on)

i do have to agree with one exception. I HATE the fact that i have to stumple around the bedroom to find the bed in the dark because the lightswitch is at the door. So if i could get into bed with the light on then clap my hands it would be GREAT

In Canada the Clapper is more of a joke. You will see it in a lot of joke skits.
