homosexuality in StarTrek........?

I not sure where humanity stacks up to our fantasy cultures; ST, B5, or SW? Because even the Vulcans have problems (or did we just add them, so they wouldn't be so perfect?).

I think B5 was wery succesfull in showing that, that no one is full of evil or a saint.

Star Trek´s soceity though, is much more interesting than B5´s, I think. The societies of B5 are much more realistic but not so interesting as Star Trek´s and so I don´t think Star Trek shows enough of the soceity of federation. People want action, phasers, photon torpedos and starhips exploding (or atleast the makers of ST think so), I would really want that they would for example release some encyclopedia in which they would tell about the society of different empires and the latest state of of the alpha sector.

Also it would be fine if this homosexuality subject would be covered, and generally, sexuality. For example people could go to change theyr sexuality and alter theyr body, just to experience what it feels like to be a man/woman etc.

They had their chance on DS9, they could have explored the inner workings of everyone's minds, thought patterns, histories, myths, (all things they touched on). It could have been a soap opera (too?). But they finally settled for war! Too bad.

After seeing the new 'Enterprise' series, I think the writers should be required to read this encyclopedia, there is supposed to be continuity in the ST world. Vulcans being deceitful, hiding spy equipment, getting beat up by a human? I don't think so!!!!

There has been numerous stabs and homosexuality and Bi-sexuality in star trek. There have been aliens with no gender too. Deep Space Nine had the "controversial" kiss between two females. Besides, star trek is supposed to be set at a time when the earth gave up racism and bigotry and lives in peace with themselves. I guess small minds don't comprehend things that are not "the norm" , I guess we just have to hope for a society like star trek because after reading some of the posts in here, I see that we are no where a peaceful existance.

 

We all forget that star trek hasnt really shown a big side of is religion. There were a few episodes where things got like that' but it was Klingons and the changlings being apparent "gods". There was one episode of DS9 that had some preachers in it but they were the bad guys. When was the last time you saw a star fleet officer prey? Maybe thats how everyone lives in peace because theres no one around to say "HEY YOU SHOULDNT BE DOING THAT!"
and im saying "maybe" a big MAYBE i dont mean to offend anyone or start a religious chat. Thats the last thing we need.

The Vulcans in all the ST's had rituals, IDIC, meditation, & asceticism. The Bajorans on DS9 were overtly religious, with priests, priestesses & prophets. Some TOS dealt with gods & immortality, "who mourns for Adonis?" and "Methuselah". And Voyager had the Klingons in the Delta Quadrant.

No, I think that each person is supposed to be tolerant of others & keep their views to themselves unless asked? But 'Enterprise'-era humans seem to be anti-Vulcan to me. No, IDIC apparent in that series.

What? Why would it be the last thing we need? All people have a philosophy (religion, world-view) that they live by, that tells them what is true or false, what it is, etc.. (your statement implies that), why, are we suppose to be 'Vulcans' here, with so called 'pure logic'? Which many times does not serve them well(or is that the human writers showing through?).

Star Trek did deal with relgion. Maybe not al the time, but they met with alien species all the time where they had to deal with relgions different than what they were used to. DS9 was based on relgion and war (the two go hand in hand). Star trek's humans have evolved past worshiping as basis for their life. I am not saying that they are perfect, far from it, there is still war and yes even racism towards other alien life forms, but at least they think for themselves and don't let things like relgion and homosexuality bother them, such minute things.

All those things were dealt with in star trek but it will always go back to relgion because unfortunately that is what people live their lives by.

Could anyone evaluate their belief system; who they are, why they are that way, what proofs they need to believe in something, what they can or can't accept for themselves. Sexuality may cut too deep into who & what we are, can we explain why we do things or behave in certain ways? And explain it logically?

It's disappointing to see so many people equating sexuality with sex. Certain angry people on this thread being completely even manically obsessed with the gay sex act. It should be noted that while many straight people are celibate many gay people are also.

As to 'queers' not being born, I would recommend a search on the topic 'xq28' a sequnce in the human genome I can assure you, peer pressure would create diamonds before it would create gays.

Possibly the problems are to do with jealousy. After all, gays, dress better, age better, get on better with women, understand human nature better, and let's not forget, get tons and tons and tons more sex than most straight people. I think it's all about the sex; people have to rationalize their beliefs or behaviors to themselves & others. I think 'gays' take the easy way out, it's easier to convince another horny man, to have sex, that to take the time or money to woo a female of the species. Or they never learned all the secrets of ' to date & mate' rituals. It's all learned behavior, except for the actual sex act, once started our bodies know what to do.
Anyway, why would 'nature' make some people 'gay' & others 'straight'? Are 'gays' mutants or evolving into a separate species ( Homo Sapiens Sapient Homosexual= Knowing Man that knows he is Homosexual)? What purpose does it serve to be 'gay' in nature? If it's that 'xq28' gene you talked about, is it just a mutation that leads to change (like green eyes), or predisposition toward (like a cancer gene, not everybody gets it) or an error (like Down's syndrome)? Explain.

I think that goes for anybody that flaunts excess.

The FACTS are as I have seen them. I've had sexual relationship[s with both sexes and found them all to be quite easy. Your supposition has one flaw tho'

If you'd had the experiences I'd had when growing up, the bullying, the beatings and the constant name calling,
(Fuck sticks and stones IT HURTS)
Then you'd know that being gay is by no means the easy option. The easy option would be to hide under the pretense of a little wife 2.2 kids and a hound of some description in a nice little suburb somewhere. To me it is my nature and I've had to fight all the way to come to the stage where I'm comfortable with it.

As to it all being about sex.

Myself and my partner have been togethere almost three years.

We still hold hands and everyday we say I love you and mean it.

We probably have sex about three time a week. Just like most straight couples.

Hope this helps you understand a little more and rememeber nature makes earthquakes, volcanos, twisters and evangelists
