Is anyone surprised at Europes' lack of interest/support in bringing Saddam down? They are/were as dirty as he was. (Oil for food etc.) They were in bed with him. No surprises here...Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
It has been estimated that 80 per cent of the oil illegally smuggled out of Iraq under "oil for food" ended up in the United States. http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1212-23.htm
Could you quote a source that's just a little bit more liberal and conspiracy-theory oriented? Like maybe Michael Moore, Al Franken or Ted Kennedy?
Q: Who has been implicated? Politicians and UN officials from dozens of countries are suspected of receiving bribes to lobby against sanctions on Iraq's behalf. International firms - mainly from the Middle East and Russia, but including some large US oil companies - are also being investigated. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4232629.stm
I don't quote Rush and Hannity. They are right-wing conservatives. I do use WND because they break stories frequently and are a great source of news. Yes there is a Christian slant, but that's fine with me. The stories are still true. And Farah is brilliant.
I still think bush will go down in history as a bad president. A major terrorist attack happened on his watch planned by someone he was warned about from Clinton’s administration. A natural disaster turned a city into a ruin on his watch. Cut taxes for the upper class while ignoring the plight of the downtrodden. Invading a sovereign nation that posed no threat to us while ignoring a foe that was no threat. Politicizing the justice department. Stretching are military close to its breaking point, the land forces at least.
So your two sources, one of which is legitimate while the other is hogwash, contradict one another, Spider? This is more of the same from you. First, you estimate that nearly 80 percent of the oil went to the US, yet a few remarks later, after being challenged, you quickly back away from that claim and provide another, more guarded estimation. Do you work for the DNC or something? Or is it just fun for you to be this ridiculous?
I'm not backing away from the earlier claim, only providing a less controversial source that also implicated US corporations. Sandy was claiming that it was only European companies, not US ones that benefitted from the corruption.
I never claimed "it was only European companies, not US ones that benefitted from the corruption." I never said such thing. I said Europe would not support us because they were in bed with Saddam. Which is true.
and i still don't see why europe not supporting bush in his invasion of iraq somehow changes the fact that he is a terrible president. This doesn't mitagate most of the reasons for why bush is the worst president we have ever had. I mean really his abuse of power would have even disgusted Nixon
This thread was about why he would go down in history as a great president. He may have killed that with his shamnesty bill. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
So you think 80 percent of the companies that benefited from Oil-for-food were US companies because some partisan source told you so, but when a non-partisan, unbiased source reports that's not the case, you stick with the more partisan assessment, which is almost completely unsubstantiated? Congratulations, you've just convicted yourself of partisanship, and hence no one should pay much of what you say any attention...
Not 80% of the companies, 80% of the oil ended up in the US. BTW, the author of that article was Scott Ritter, former UN weapons inspector in Iraq (1991-1998) and the author of 'Frontier Justice: Weapons of Mass Destruction. I think he knows what he's talking about.
Plenty of US corporations, including Dick Cheney's former employer made billions from the invasion, so perhaps that's why they invaded? Perhaps the European nations actually had some sense and compassion for the Iraqi people, who they knew would suffer from any large scale war in Iraq.
Even if I accepted your premise was true, what does it prove that 80 percent of the oil ended up here? The one's who committed the crime and the bit of immorality are the companies that ignored the sanctions and acquired the oil, or don't you see that? Once they bought the oil, how are we to know which barrels were legitimate, which ones weren't? You think they marked them up and offered them to us that way? You think they said: "Well, here's the barrels we illegally got from Iraq? You guys want them?" And regardless of what it describes, I still think the 80 percent figure is pure nonsense and not supported by a non-partisan news source. Scott Ritter? Are you kidding me? The man did Democratic fund raisers before his past obsession with underage children was ferreted out and published... Again, you're a partisan. Nothing more...
