Two citations. Mostly just food for thought.

    The Koran (Sura 5.110)

    From Tales of the Dervishes:

Shah, Idries. Tales of the Dervishes. New York: Penguin Arkana, 1993.

An online copy of The Koran is available at http://www.hti.umich.edu/k/koran/

I think it would be inappropriate for me to ask any specific question. If that seems odd, please trust me on the issue.

I'm hardly a scholor on Islam: the only connection between the two citations I know of is that one's the Koran and the other is a long-standing derivative of the Koran. I just liked the fact that they're both about Jesus and clay birds.

Those things mentioned ... I'm wondering what reactions, if any, such ideas as the dervish tale, bring about.

    thanx,
    Tiassa

    Tiassa,

Go to this webpage (which is devoted to Mark Twain's correspondence with the San Francisco ALTA CALIFORNIA from 1867 to 1869),
and scroll down to the heading which reads, "<a href="http://www.twainquotes.com/18670804.html">A CURIOUS BOOK</a>". The quotes are supposedly taken from an edition of 1621 of the Apochryphal New Testament, and I thought you might find them interesting. It does mention the clay birds, and a few other fascinating tales as well.

    Enjoy!

At least now I know it's part of the written tradition, as well as the oral.

So totally cool ... thank you.

I've bookmarked them for later reading - but since I have to get up in about 7 hours, I'm off to bed now.
