Not really. I know loads of people that haven't watched tv in years (myself included),
but instead have turned to internet as their main source of information,
most of them (including myself) maintain their own websites.

Flash is good and html is good, they each have their own place and use.
Flash = presentation, html = information.

No, seriously.... Flash can be used for simple things such as buttons. It could work well. It's not that hard to put lots of info on Flash. Take a look on that last site. There's LOTS of information there. And the site is filled with Flash. So why not?

I was a flash developer myself, I know the limitations of it quite well.
What you see on that excellent website is presentation.
For example, this is information -> http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm

That's remarkable. I thought it was a regular website filled with information....

Ok.... So why can't you put that amount of information in a website using Flash?

You can, but it will be slow and demand lots of cpu.
Besides as far as I know Flash can use only actionscript, not php, ruby or other coding languages.
I would like to see you running Sciforums in flash.

As I said in the other thread, we have Moore's Law. So computers will get faster, internet will get faster and Flash could easily become mainstream (that is if it is not considered that yet!

And I reply the same, it's not a law as gravity is a law.
Besides making huge websites with loads of information and dynamics in flash is a really, really silly idea. *sigh*
Whatever, think what you want, time will show who is right.
Flash won't become what html is today.

Ah. the great debade: Form vs. Content. Although Flash sites are annoying when you're trying to get some information, they are affective especially if you're trying to sell something or simply attract visitors to your site.
I wish we lived in a world where "flash" did not exist (in advertising and product design) because it distracts the consumer from real facts and content. In our societies, "flash" IS the content.
Anyway, that being said, Macromedia Flash is fun to learn and use. It is very easy to get started and is very powerful through actionscript. I think the most challenging thing about it and what separates the best programmers from anyone is that they are able to create amazing animations using very little bandwidth. This optimization of file size and run speed is difficult to do.

Yes, Flash is a really great software, one of my very favourite. One can be very creative with it and it's not hard.

They have Flash here at school. I have been experimenting with it and taking the lessons all for free. That was lucky....

Yeah. I wouldn't recommend making a whole website in flash. But if you just wanne be creative, go for it. The best sites are the ones that incorporate the best of the two.

Here's a very very cool Flash site(make sure you have sound):

    http://cmart.design.ru/
