Yes...if 'being alive' is an emergent property of being human then theoretically 'being alive' could occur as an emergent property in another medium given the right conditions.

AI is still a primitive technology. We won't see a massive improvement in our shor lives.

And you are 100% sure that I am not a machine?

The great creator being an inherent set of design principles?

Thats one of the most interesting (better yet: potentially useful) ideas I have ever read.

I have a question for everyone.. I'm not sure its entirely on topic, however since there is a plea for 'definitions' I think it is productive, if not a direct contribution to this discussion.

    Simply.. What is intelligence?

Checked wikpedia for this and the answers listed are highly unsatisfactory.

They seem like they're grasping at straws.. it feels intuitively wrong; like there should be a far more simple, very clear cut answer to this. Its bizarre that such a commonly used term that everyone seems to -intuitively- (i.e. you know it when you see it) grasp, at least contextually, should be so difficult to pin down, explicitly.

I have my own ideas, but I would far prefer to hear other peoples.. suggestions?

    It's a ruse. He's a program I wrote.

As far as intelligence goes, I think it's something along the lines of:

The efficient utilization of concepts to direct "thought" in a manner that satisfies one's perception of their survival.

And like, one's percpetion of their survival can include anything from hair dye to calculus.

Intelligence is the ability to modify the environments to increase ones fitness.

humans are alive because they are squeshy. machines are not alive because they are NOT squeshy.
