The worst thing about Ayn Rand is that Greenspan regularly sat in her weekly living room discussion groups for more than a year.
He later, as chairman of the Fed, said: "There was no reason for the government to regulate banks as they did not want to make bad loans and were in much better position than some DC bureaucrats to evaluate how to safely making loans, etc." Not actually a direct quote - but words like that.

Thus, in some quite real way, Ayn Rand's ideas are why the US is in such an economic mess now.

typical no sense of accountability. and no most of those aren't personal attacks but explaining her thoughts processes and her back ground. all of these statments were based on her life and her writings. have you even read anything from her attempts at writing.

???? not really I could make proper syllogisms for all of them. but I find it telling that you the guy who calls everybody sociopaths is defending her a lady who almost certainly one.

It means you sure as hell can't terraform Mars without reading the terraforming manual. Your ignorance on both counts remains intact and intractable.

Thank you. I do not come too much to sciforums because lately the people are imbeciles including our old time Moderators....I have done many things in life and ready to do more with or without sciforums. So, I keep my sense of humor OK.

Indeed that is true, Greenspan was key in the repeal of Glass-Steagall and the passage of The Commodities Futures Modernization Act which led to The Great Recession of 2007-2009. Greenspan was an idiot. Greenspan remains an idiot. He dropped out while studying economics at Columbia University. And he was appointed to the Fed by Ronald Reagan. He was a mess as a Fed chairman.

    Ayup.
Y'all keep arguing about who she was and what she ended up doing (and/or her supporters).

As opposed to what she said.

The reason is because a few greedy , low life, assholes took advantage of the "system" and stole what they could using others to help them in their schemes. It isn't the system that's the problem , it's those few within it that make it corrupt.

    Right.
So which "system" do you think might be immune to this?

Adding more safeguards and enforcing them could at least make it better, don't you agree?

Absolutely, but when you're done adding the safeguards, what's left?

    .. or right?

Less corruption one would hope and with that less money trickling up and more trickling down.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
    Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

    Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
    And a long stem rose
    Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
    Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
    Without your clothes
    And everybody knows

    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows

    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows

And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
    For your ribbons and bows
    And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
    That will disclose
    What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
    To the beach of Malibu
    Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
    Before it blows
    And everybody knows

    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows

    Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows

    Everybody knows

As I read along, an old thought comes to mind. I wonder if people have "born in" natural proclivities toward philosophical inclinations. Maybe what we come to believe about the issues that divide us is partially genetic, and partially experiential. Not that we will follow the lead of our parents, but that our opinions might come forward as some combination of dominant or recessive genes, in addition to our upbringing and experiences?
