Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Atlas V, which can use up to five 'strap-on'
solid fuel boosters, rose from its seaside pad on time at 6:05 p.m.,
today carrying a European broadcasting satellite for its inaugural
liftoff beating Boeing's Delta IV to space by two months.

This latest version of the Atlas uses the Russian RD-180 engine which
is more environmentally friendly due to the use of oxygen/kerosene for
    fuel.
