    Was just talking to a friend and according to him the end of the world is soon and part of the proof of this is the number of earthquakes is increasing which is a sign of the end.

    He even stated that there has been more earthquakes in the last 100 years than the previous 1000.

    How can we gather evidence to prove/disprove this very strong statement?

    More earthquakes? There are thousands every day, and the instruments to detect them are getting better and more numerous. I don't believe it. In fact, there is some suggestion that global warming will reduce the movement of continental plates by reducing the temperature differential.

    AFAIK, there is no way to disprove this statement for the simple reason that we do not know how many earthquakes occurred between 1909 and 2008, let alone between 909 and 1908. There is of course no way to prove the statement, either. This sounds like religious psychoceramics. Crackpots tend to think that once they make a goofball claim, the claim is true until science proves it false. That is not how science works. The burden of proof in science falls on the person making a claim. Moreover, this is an extraordinary claim, and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

    That we are observing more earthquakes now than ever before is a result of have better instrumentation than ever before. It is not the result of more earthquakes now than ever before.

    This is what I think concerning the question about earthqakes and the end of time. The bible says that in the end of time there would be earthqakes in various or diverse places. During those days when the bible was written there was no way to know were an earthqake was happening unless you where actually in the event af an earthqake. But God has made a way for Christians today to know when and were on earth an earthqake is occuring so we would know that His prophecy is being fullfied as he said it would be and we should prepare ourselves even more for the coming of Jesus Christ. If There was no media or instruments such as seismographs to let people know that an earthqake is happening in the world then what would be the point of such a great prophecy to begin with. I mean, who would really know that an earthqake was even occuring in China or Italy or anywhere, as far as that's concerned, if you where somewhere far away without the sort of equipment that God has given us today to let us know when and were an earthqake is happening. It' ovious to me that it's all a big part of Gods plan and He has control over what is going on in the world. But I'll let you be the judge and God bless....

    Earthqakes and Endtime Prophecy

    I would like to comment again on the subject about earthqakes since end time prophecy is one of my favorite subjects. I've been studying end time prophecies in the bible for many years and there is a pattern I notice people have when they are explaining to someone about these prophecies. The pattern I notice is misquotation. For example with the earthqake prophecy in the book of Matthew 24:7 Jesus said to His desciples, " nation will go to war against nation, and kindom against kindom. There will be famines and earthqakes in many parts of the world." Notice Jesus did not say that earthqakes would increase, but they would be in many parts of the world. Or in some translatians of the bible it says there will be earthqakes in various places." Still again it does not say more earthqakes would occur. So it's ovious that we have some people out there who simply misquote scripture or in some cases I believe it's the work of the devil and his way of misleading people from knowing the truth. Once again you be the judge and God bless....

    There has and always will be earthquakes. There will always be big and small ones that occur all around the world. They can happen anytime and just about any place. However, man's greatest threat comes from the supervolcanos. Mankind is due for another supervocano eruption. Just like Toba that almost wiped out the early hominids approx. 73,000 years ago, The same thing will probably happen again sometime in the future. If that's the case, then forget about the so-called big earthquakes. That would be like comparing the Soapbox Derby to the Grandprix.

    FYI, the average occurrence of earthquakes follows a logrithmatic scale;

    1 per year of 8 or or above on the Richter scale.
    10 " " of 7 or above;
    100 per year of 6 or above;
    1,000 per year of 5 or above;
    10,000 per year of 4 or above;
    100,000 per year of 3 or above;
    1,000,000 per year of 2 or above, which generally can't be detcted except by instruments.

    You are aware, are you, that this fits into the category of superstitious, delusional nonsense.

    I've worked with seismographs. None of them said Made By God on them. Seismographs are the products of human inventiveness.

    End Times is dangerous, evil claptrap.

    May God find you and slap some sense into you.

    If end time prophecy was so evil then why did God send prophets to earth to warn us? And no seismographs don't have gods name on them but without the knowledge he gave us how could we have invented them. I'm not here to stump you or anything. Just shed a little light and more common sense on things.

    "End times" is an assumption.
    "God" is an assumption.

    Assumptions again.

    No common sense or light shown so far.
    Waiting...

    It doesn't take much foresight to predict natural disasters. They come along with regularity. I would like to see a prediction of something unusual and specific, you never see that from religious types.

    Just a thought: rather than an increase in the number of earthquakes or an improvement in our detection capabilities, could it not just be an increase in the number of nutters that speculate about it?

    He didn't. What is your evidence that he did?
    He didn't give us any knowledge. We acquired this knowledge through our own efforts.
    You are not shedding light and you most certainly are not applying common sense.

    There has been an increase in minor earthquakes here in California. As a huge earthquake has been predicted to happen any day now. These little ones are supposedly the precursors to this giant one. Something about it happening every hundred years and it's been about that long, so blah, blah, blah (other scientist lingo), but I have noticed quite a few more (3 that I've felt) earthquakes in the last year than the one's previous. Seeing as there is usually about one every other year or so (that is widely felt by people). I don't think it has anything to do with the end of days, though. But the earth is always changing, maybe we're just the lucky group of people that get to see it happen.

    The evidence is written in the word of God. That evidence enough for me rather looking to the mombo jombo that was written only yesterday. I like to take the advice from not the common sence those people had in those days but rather thier wisdom.

    There's no evidence that god exists and none that the bible is his word.

    So the older it is the more reliable it is?

    And what wisdom would that be?
