Hehe, I've got it straight brother! If you were talking video games I'd buy it but NO, you're talking about trading cards????

Sorry, but that kind of knowledge about trading card stuff makes you a dweeb. Not to say that you're not a geek too.

Personally, i'm not a dweeb, but I'm a dork, nerd and geek, though I think dork is overlap.

I was thinking last night that a dork is a nerd OR geek with an overdeveloped sense of humor. Hmm.. it's tough to differentiate between geek and nerd. I'd say a geek uh.. hmm.. I haven't nailed this down yet. lemme check the dictionary to see if they did well.

    geek ( P ) Pronunciation Key (gk)
    n. Slang

A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Perhaps alteration of dialectal geck, fool, from Low German gek, from Middle Low German.]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    geeky adj.
Our Living Language Our word geek is now chiefly associated with student and computer slang; one probably thinks first of a computer geek. In origin, however, it is one of the words American English borrowed from the vocabulary of the circus, which was a much more significant source of entertainment in the United States in the 19th and early 20th century than it is now. Large numbers of traveling circuses left a cultural legacy in various and sometimes unexpected ways. For example, Superman and other comic book superheroes owe much of their look to circus acrobats, who were similarly costumed in capes and tights. The circus sideshow is the source of the word geek, “a performer who engaged in bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.” We also owe the word ballyhoo to the circus; its ultimate origin is unknown, but in the late 1800s it referred to a flamboyant free musical performance conducted outside a circus with the goal of luring customers to buy tickets to the inside shows. Other words and expressions with circus origins include bandwagon (coined by P.T. Barnum in 1855) and Siamese twin.

n : a person of unquestioning obedience [syn: flunky, flunkey, stooge, yes-man]

    dweeb

An even lower form of life than the spod, found in much the
same habitat as the former. though more prevailent on talker
systems. Unlike spods, upon receiving the desired response
to the question "Are you male or female?", dweebs will then
engage upon a detailed description of themselves and how
wonderful they are, often in the hopes of truly impressing the
other with their "charm" and "wit". Nearly all dweebs are
male, but very few actually live up to the image that they
present. Dweebs, unfortunately, are often the cause of
ill-will, and may well bring a bad reputation to the system in
question. They are often, however, easy to wind up and can be
the source of great mirth to the seasoned user.

Hmm.. I don't like the defs very much. I'll have to work on them. For instance dork is a sense of humor thing to me. Maybe it means that you find humor in the horrifically stupid or something. I'll think about it.

I actually downplay my persona online. In real life I am a thundering elephant of a person, with flashing green eyes and a razor wit. I am a devout believer in hedonism as a practical solution for political strife, for when was the last time that you saw a two nations have an orgy that did NOT stop the war between them? I climb rocks for a living, with occasional hang-gliding referrals from specialists. In the evenings I permit lonely people to appreciate the pure joy of my physical presence, and at night I sleep the sleep of the fulfilled and merry lover of all things.

I truly know that the world was created to revolve, not around the Earth or the Sun, but my beautiful self. I call this the Egocentric Universe.

My love is free, but hard to get. And I do not talk to strangers. Still, even wishing that you were near me would make your life better.

It is only on Sciforums that I am BigBlueHead, champion of semi-scientific semi-objectivity.

    Foolish overlord!
Know you that gaming geeks are a new subspecies.
We've only been around for the last 30 years or so.

You see you confuse those peons that call themselves gamers, just because they play a few hours of halo, with the real thing.
True gaming geeks know no media boundries!
Pong, atari, nintendo (various) sega (various) ps one and two, and xbox are just the begining. You must also conquer the realms of LARPing, table-top, free form, minitures, and all other forms of simulation/rp'ing.
Then you have all your ccg's and other collectable games to stay up with. Be it M:TG, Pokemon, digimon, starwars, star trek, DBZ, mech warrior.
This shit is alot of work.

"A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept. "

    That sums it up.
There are those of us that can tell you what page of teh DMG or PHB the answer to any of your questions can be found on. Tere are those of us that can quote you 6 pages of erata for one card that won't be printed till tomorrow.
It is the technical pursuit of GAME BREAKING!!! that gives us purpose and meaning.
We are the people that Dm's despise for our broken characters; that match judges hate because our decks twist the rules so badly that new erata must be made; that game companies hate because we make nude patches to their games.
The only people that have any love for us is the programers. We are the ones that find all the easter eggs, cookies, and warps.
We are the only ones that find all those things they hide in their games that no one in their right mind would ever think of looking for.

    We are the gaming geeks....

First thing that pops up is that a nerd overlord is someone who is both nerdier than everyone else, but knows it and yet also has enough interpersonal ability to utilise this to their own benefit, or the benefit of the community of nerds.

YOu could always have a parody (or actual ) self help group, with symptom lists like I'm sure you can get symptom lists of being a nerd.

Then I always thought nerds were the techie sort of computer people, dweebs and dorks arent so computer related. So brush up on your computer skills boy.

I think you need a hat or crown.

How about a most extreme nerd hunt?
    Bigbluehead said:
"The world abounds with nerds, my friend, and in its deepest recesses are forgotten nerds who have never seen the light of day..."

So you can have peopel hunt them down and photograph them or profile them or something. This would serve to make sure they are alive, and also help some people realise with relief that they arent the nerdiest nerd out there.

Possibly nerd is ultimately a subset of eccentric, or at least the most extreme ones are.

    Meph, that was beautiful.

    I dub thee "Nerd Underlord".

Does your friend have flashing green eyes, or believe in secular hedonism as the saviour of politics?

    umm...Possibly?
You know who I am if you know me, and if you know me, then you would know you know me by my name, you know?
So, if you know me, quit messing with my head, 'cause you sound fairly familiar in style. Just Pm and let me know who the hell you are or drop a hint my oblivious ass would pick up on.

If you don't know if you know me, then you obviously don't.

I always thought nerds were like really smart like "the fibreoptic calmite expulsion unit blah blah"
But they talk about real stuff.
A geek on the other hand talks about the LOTR universe(for example) in the same way, like its real serious stuff.
A dork is just kind of a silly loser who wears bad clothes and falls over alot.
A dweeb is.... I'm not sure what a dweeb is, a dweeb is kind of a dork crossed with either a geek or a nerd. It doesn't really matter. Whats important is that they are quiet and smart and wear pants that are too short so that their socks show.
Actually I'm not confident on my dweeb, but I think I'm pretty right about the rest.

    true wisdom from the doc.
(I also support it as it reinforces my definition)
LOTR is very serious stuff, especially when you are trying to come up with accurate stats and skills for the characters as NPC's.
