    No, your right, middle ages it was. I've just dug out my copy of artilllery through the ages. in 1324 gus are recorded as having been used at the seige of Metz, and in 1326 brass cannon firing iron balls were being used in defending Florence. They were more use and ni more familiar form by the early 15th century, long bombards being produced then, whereas the guns mentioned above are more likley to be short and squat.

    I think the gatling gun was 1850's? Google for it.
