What if we go to war to save a nation of millions, and that action results in the death of thousands, is the net savings worth it?

It's the same thing. He's wining and dining diplomats and congressmen to change the laws and institutions of our country, and that has a cost in energy, but the net savings are worth it if people pay attention.

spidergoat, so your in support of the War on Terrorism? The removal of Saddam, great, a really good example of why to support the War.

Again does he need 7 estates? and for all of his energy savings he is still using 20 times the power levels of a common man.

How is living in a huge mansion and using oodles of energy, helping to convince congressmen of anything except how to wine and dine people and waste more energy which pumps more shit into the air? Wouldn't a letter, or a conversation over a MacDonald's do the trick?

    Big fuckin' "IF" ain't it?

But in the meantime, of course, he lives in a huge mansion which encourages other people to live in huge mansions, so the net pollution is even greater!

Do as I say, not as I do! (Some big, important guy in history said that!)

I think terrorism, in particular Islamic terrorism, is an important issue that should be among our highest concerns as a nation. However, like the war on drugs, war on terror is almost impossible. That is not to say that nothing can be done, but that this tactic is inherently unsuitable for fighting with military action. They simply do not gather in one place long enough to be targets.

In that case, I don't think there was a net benefit.

I'm sure they aren't all used at once.

But they all have staffs that keep them ready for the AlGore to use, which means that the all use energy at full consumption, 24/7/365, Hell of a way to show your energy awareness, wouldn't you say? Live as I say, not as I live, AlGore's favorite motto?

You don't know that keeping them ready means they heat every room full blast. Certainly you can't turn the heat off completely or the pipes would freeze. Don't you watch Bob Vila?

You think? you don't know? I would want some more information, and all the information won't be in till this reaches the end, one way or the other, the historical equivalent is the Vietnam War, and the killing didn't stop for a decade, and millions more lost their lives, I don't like the way the war is going my self, we are fighting it as a politically correct war just like Vietnam, we are more worried about not offending the enemy than we are about winning, war is not a sporting event, the badest ass on the field wins, and we are more than capable of being the badest ass's, on the field of battle, and by winning you end up saving lives not only your own, but the enemy's to.

That just proves you know nothing about the situation in Iraq. Peacekeeping is not the same as battle, the enemy is not recognizable, and the people we train today to replace us can use our weapons and training against us tomorrow.

It's just "eggs" plural not "egg's" possessive.

    spidergoat,

And you are still using PC ideals to try to make your point, you are the one who don't know about Iraq, we haven't moved back to the all out war mode, because the PC stupidity of the liberal left won't recognize that there is a major threat to be dealt with, and to deal with it some areas of Iraq will have to be destroyed, and they don't have the stomach for that. We cleaned up Falujhia, with no problem, when the troops are allowed to do the job it gets done, it's you weak knee liberals that can't stand the heat, PC correct bullshit.

spidergoat, only when you can prove your theory of how to deal with terrorism, and show that it will work in the real world. By example would be nice.

My statement has nothing to do with being PC. It has everything to do with the practicality of fighting terrorism. I will give you an example of how your "strategy", (actually just an emotional response) doesn't work- Falluja. We can clear out any area of bad guys, but they just move away and regroup. Plus, any innocent person that dies, their family is bound to become terrorists and seek revenge.

But I'm confusing the issue, since Iraq and Saddam's WMD's had nothing to do with Islamic terrorism.

Terrorism can be fought by killing the terrorists, controlling their money, controlling their communications and IT resources, cutting off aid from sympathetic groups... basically international police action. Since killing the entire region where they live will create more terrorists, obviously that is not an effective strategy. Surgical strikes on their leadership using precision guided weapons based on good intelligence is key. Recruiting native arabic speakers is essential. Having special forces that can attack a terrorist base is essential. Creating allies among the native population where terrorists hide is perhaps the most important thing of all. The techniques are well known in intelligence circles, this isn't new, the British pioneered many of these against the IRA.

Counter-terrorism is the work of specialists, not grunts.

Then why do we still have terrorism? it take the co-operation of the world for those methods to work, and if you observe the U.N. there is no co-operation, so again tell me how well this is working, as we have programs to do just this, but the demorat call any thing that we do to identify and target the people who fund and supply the terrorist a invasion of privacy, and then try to apply the Constitutional right of Americans, to enemy combatants, and the people who supply them, yes tell me how well this works.

And the reason it worked is that the U.S. were much of the financial support came from, joined the Brits in cutting off the weapons and money from the IRA, and the fact that the mothers on both sides decided that they were not going to sacrifice any more of their children for the Troubles, a far different attitude than is exhibited by the Islamic Terrorist.

All of this can be done without violating any American citizen's rights, or enlisting the aid of the UN. Special Forces don't need to ask permission from any nation to enter secretly and kill known terrorists.

OK guys, you're not going to believe this, but Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas is basically "off grid". It uses geo-thermal heat, solar power, wind power, recycles rainwater and waste water. An enviromental dream.

This author of this article clearly is no friend of Bush, and he takes jabs at him throughout the article. I point this out in case you think this is a snow job.

Anyway, this really shows you what a first rate, world class hypocrite Gore is! Gore talks the talk, but Bush walks the walk.
