    Hi alls,

I just started learning C Programming with 8051.
    I use P89V51RD2 from Philips.
And I program with SDCC - Gnu GPL C Compiler.
It also supports Microchip PIC16 and PIC18 series.
It have an IDE called MIDE

This is the worst kind of spam... because it is almost useful.

Although this post was/is a blatent advertisement, I did notice alot of discussions about microcontrollers, so I've left this post because of how AntonK put it... "Because it is almost useful". Feel free to convert this thread into a discussion about Microcontrollers however.

Good move Stryder, thought you might as well remove the link to their page (that makes it a topic rather than a spam).

As for discussion, I've also seen a number of discussions about microcontrollers in other forums on this site. It seemed to me they belong here anyway. Questions for others: though my work is usually mostly theoretical; relating to design and simulation of new and interesting architectures, I do dabble in some real-world engineering at times, especially with microcontrollers. Anyone work with them in industry? If so, which ones are used in industry now? (I am not even close to keeping up on this sort of thing) For those of you who just use them for hobby or home projects? Which controllers do you use? Also, which programmers? I'd like to update my equipment a bit, but budget is a concern.
