    The place: Gloucestershire, England.
    The date: 19th July 2009
Approximately 40-50,000 people "enjoying" a typical British summer day, i.e. torrential rain interspersed with very short periods of not-so-torrential rain.
And then, suddenly the weather broke, clouds split up and the sun appeared, followed by a very loud roaring that at one time could well have presaged the end of the world; so loud that it set off car alarms 3/4 of a mile away.
An angel appeared, danced in the sunlit sky and then left after a mere 15 minutes.
Then the rain came back fiercer and heavier than before.
But many of those lucky people had cameras with them, including me.
    Ladies and gentlemen the proof...

God exists and he loves XH558!
    The Vulcan is BACK!

Seriously though - the only time the rain stopped for more than a minute or two was for the entire display of the old lady.
It was worth an 18-hour day, 9 hours in traffic and getting soaked to the skin.

    PS, yeah I'm a geek.

    "Prosper" is a slight overstatement.
It cost £8 million to get it back in the air, £2M of which came from various government agencies - the other 3/4 of that was public/ private/ company donations.
It got a standing ovation - the first time ever I've seen such a thing in nearly 50 years of air shows.

    Ha.
Such 'sightings' of gods and religious imagery are commonplace to crazed Hindu pilgrims going to the Himalayas. Would be interesting to find out the neurological base behind such persistent hallucinations; or atleast proving the (lack of) verity in such claims.

    That's ridiculous!
The RAF never deployed Vulcans to the Himalayas.

You must have a 1440x900 screen.

    1280 x 1024 (24" monitor).
But the photos are posted "as taken" - directly from the camera.
I was quite happy with it at the time I bought it, but in comparison to newer ones it has a rubbish zoom function.

I thought you had the same resolution as I have because the pictures you posted were placed so that they only just fell of the page for me. If you know what I mean

A Grand Old Bird, and outstanding airframe, but My soft spot is for the BUFF, and it's still active and still running with
the Big Dogs, wish the same for the Vulcan, they both are very capable craft.

    The Buff was there:

A lumbering giant compared to the Vulcan. It took most of the length of the runway to get airborne, whereas the Vulcan used 4-500 yards and then pulled up into a 60-degree climb as it retracted its gear.
Similarly when the Buff did its "display" it flew past, took half the county to turn round and then flew past in the other direction, Vulcan just stayed within the confines of the peri-track, looking and acting like a slightly(!) larger than usual fighter.

Mind, there's no comparison when it comes to weapon load...

Dywyddyr yes, but I have seen live what a cell of Buff's can and do.
Arc Light, now that is rolling thunder.

I have also seen a Buff come down from the north full of holes and bring the crew home.

Interestingly they both have the same thrust ratio 0.31

Nah, I'm not talking fighter planes; I'm talking about monkey gods, ice eternally in the shape of religious symbols, and 4000-year-old-caveman-sages. Not to mention the Yeti.

"Live long and suck the public teat in your silver days", then.

I saw a Spit at an airshow in Canada once. I thought my heart would burst with joy. There was something about the silhouette that struck me like a hammer. Silly, I suppose.

He means that aliens might have deployed them there.

    See?

Oh, not at all. It can get so in-your-face at times that sometimes you start questioning yourself...

it would be fun if they would drop ordinance on the nearest city as a demonstration or their puropose.

    preferably nuclear ordinance.

Sure. While they're at it, why don't the guards shoot some people as a demonstration of their power.
