Note to reader: I have had some personal experience with a psychic in the past and happen to believe in the ability. The famous psychic Sylvia Brown conducted readings on an episode of Montel Williams and stated to someone with vivid dreams of water and being under ocean that she was a reincarnation of someone who lived in the civilization of Atlantis. Now, why do we seem to have trouble believing in the existence of a subterranean civilization? Could we as humans during our technological and medical advancement stumbled upon certain revolutionary findings that were incumbant for Atlantis but have now become lost? Perhaps the rulers of Atlantis believed that humans weren't ready to live under the ocean and volunteered the destruction of its traces. Maybe it was an experiment gone bad and the realization that we were meant to live on land came late.
What are you talking about? Atlantis was an island described as having very advanced technology by some ancient Greek writers before it supposedly sank below the surface in some kind of cataclysm (presumably an earthquake or volcanic eruption or something). There was never any hint that they lived under water - most likely they were all killed. Also, keep in mind that Atlantis was supposed to have "advanced technology" by the standards of ancient Greece. Things like running water in buildings or the ability to make concrete would have qualified as "very advanced".
I think you're thinking Atlantica, not Atlantis. Poseiden sunk Atlantis. The little mermaid lived in Atlantica. Unless you are talking aboutthe Altantis depicted in the Justice League or that old Godzilla cartoon. I'm not sure that there's proof that the real Atlantis wasn't a product of mythology.
Yeh, I was thinking of this cartoon Atlantis. There's probably no evidence except in the field of psychics.
Not much. Pretty much all that I mentioned she said. It wasn't an interview, just a quick response to a question.
I watched the show as well and have read some of her books. Itseems real that atlantis was occupied by aliens who were blond and 6-8 ft tall and very advanced. It is a theory that the experiments they conductedwent really wrong because the island itself sunk. There is new evidence evryday that artifatcs are being found at the bottome of the ocean. I think Sylvia also said that atlantis would also rise again in 10 years or so.
of course "atlantis" existed =) here's some maps: http://www.sacred-texts.com/atl/soa/soamap.htm here's "lemuria" too: http://www.sacred-texts.com/atl/tll/tll01.htm
You don't have to believe me, but there is always new evidence being found everyday that prove her theories to accurate
Sylvia Brown predictions (January 2005 that is, so big it made the news?) Made FOR 1998 And this from http://www.corporatenarc.com/sylviabrownescam.php, one of many sites that state much the same. Certainly sounds reliable to me...
Some people show more evidence for Randi as being unreliable. Or perhaps he assumes to know too much about the unknowable. Here's a source that shows Sylvia Browne as making both correct and incorrect predictions: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/aspie/trueorfalse/sylviabrowne22072004.html As with any true psychic, she only speaks of what she sees. In my experience with just one psychic, they tend to be correct about things that you find out later, but still it puzzles you because you cannot know how someone can make the connection by any means. But as well, occasionally, the person can turn out wrong. I was also able to distinguish between cold reading and genuine reading due to the information given in my readings. I presently have not been in contact with any psychic for well over a year however.
Have a look at the other links on that site: http://www.skepticreport.com/psychics/sylviapredictions98.htm 2 came out correct, 4 are undetermined and 15 wrong. Stunning record. An oxymoron, surely? Yeah? and he still put up the million dollars... http://www.skepticreport.com/psychics/dodgeball.htm Because you fit events to the "predictions", which are vague enough for you to fill in the gaps and assign meaning to them yourself...
these arguments sre going on forever, we will just ahve to wait and see if sylvia's theory is correct which is Atlantis will rise between 2020 and 2025.
You are confused. These are not arguments. On the one hand you are making unsubstantiated, generalist statements with no evidential basis and no understanding of scientific methodology. On the other hand Oli is diplomatically pointing out, with ample quality references, that you are a deluded nutter. There is no argument. Only a rout of your delusions, though I agree, for you, those delusions could well be eternal. With warmest regards Ophiolite
"Atlantis" was legend, based around the real-life volanic distaster on one of the Aegean islands (I forget the name).
