Has European multiculturalism gone too far?

A fellow named Fjordman (Fjord? Isn't that Norwegian? Meh whatever) seems to think it has, and I think I agree with him after reading his site. Calls for sharia in Malmo (a major city there), attacks on native Swedes by muslim immigrants for misogynist reasons, religious discrimination by muslims against native Swedes, 'honour' murders, beheading videos, vandalism, oppression of the working class, official shutdown of objective reporting on the issue...this has the makings of political correctness gone mad.

Europe isn't one country, but there probably are places where it has gone too far.

What Fjordman describes is actually taking place (in various degrees) in most European countries, or what some here refers to as the “old Europe”. Perhaps the “economist” mentalities across Europe that once visualized a no-borders commonwealth of services and trade, were only counting the coins without regard to the lesson of history.

The clock is so far ahead winded that there’s no turning back, unless of course unrest develops of biblical proportions.

As an example, the German government is been accused of discriminating by requesting that those of Islamic religion fill up a form when applying for German citizenship, declining certain acts that although normal in their place of origin, they are in violation of laws or antisocial within Germany.

Basically, if Muslims don’t like alcohol or those who consume it, ladies in mini skirt, sexual equality, women bosses or pork eaters. Why do they want to live in such a devil’s place?
Why to live in misery surrounded by millions of sinners?

In addition to the religion factor, there’s the east-block factor. The majority of families that have moved into the west from oppressed Easter European countries, had nothing more then a better standard of living and general prosperity in their minds. However, an ever increasing number of “singles” are capitalizing on open societies by creating gangs involved in common theft and extortion as well as human trafficking. Unlike the Muslim counterpart, they have no interest in reviving their customs on foreign land; they simply want to capitalize on it.

When the collective sentiment of society grow discontented towards the lack of adaptation and the respect of their land by foreigners. It results in various degrees of discrimination. The native citizens are portrait as the violator and the foreign identity as the victim. The old Europe is next victimized to change their social laws, to shoulder the economic burden and to disarray their own social order that has taken thousands of year and endless wars to accomplish.

There’s really no nice side to the picture.

Multiculturalism hasn't gone far enough. If people move to Europe and expect to be able to keep their wives locked up, they're the ones who aren't accepting of the mores of other cultures, ergo, they're the ones who aren't multicultural...

Luckily most immigrants aren't that extreme.

That seems to me to get the idea of multiculturalism exactly backwards... the immigrants aren't demanding that the "natives" start locking up their wives. On the contrary, multiculturalism is the justification European natives use to avoid confronting immigrant communities when they engage in practices that violate local norms. This is presumably seen as the price of peace and quiet, but it is exactly the negation of any universal values or human rights.

I would say that it has gone way too far in Europe, although it seems likely to go even further. Beyond banning a few headscarves and tightening immigration controls, European publics seem to have little stomach for confronting any of these issues. Certainly they don't want to stir up the pot much when it comes to people already living in their countries... I guess a few more Theo Van Gogh's and honor killings must be less frightening than the riots France saw recently.

 

Or the memory of past fascists is more frightening than either.

Im sorry I thought when I checked out those links to other blogs on that site which are all rightwing Christain or anti immigration sites like the european ' Viking observer ' which carry stories like " Nurses: immigrant patients are a drag" where third world immigrants are described as dirty or the American blog ' Rednecks Revenge' with their anti Mexican and Arab bias were hate sites !
