Question: Why would they make a Sphinx statue thingey?

I don't want to hear any out of line reasons either. "The sphinx was created because..." You see what I mean? There is NO good reason, OTHER than "The sphinx was created because they had a good reason for making it."

I'm no expert on the Egyptians, but did they not pioneer organised irrigation, along with reclamation of the desert (along the banks of the Nile)...?
