New study proves men smarter than women.

Good article, Sam. It points out that males in a sexually reproducing species are under much greater selective pressure than females. It stands to reason, then, that we'd be more evolved. Better, stronger, faster.......but, women have breasts. Which are pretty great.

How can you argue with that? In the words of Ron Burgandy "Men have bigger brains. . . It's science"

From this study, "But when it comes to Nobel Prize winners, he said that men could outnumber women 10-to-1. "Where it will really show up is at the very high end of the distribution," Rushton said”

IQ has nothing to do with it. To be sure! Most women have to divide their time between work (including scientific work) and families. Of course there are some devotees who can abandon everything and everybody for the sake of a career (including a scientific career), but the majority don’t want to sacrifice their private life. It’s obvious that men spend less time on home duties, so it isn’t necessary to be a hero and to refuse all pleasure in order to concentrate on Nobel Prize. So there are more talented men than talented women who spend near all their time pursuing the highest scientific achievements. I suppose, that only this fact shows up at the very high end of the distribution. :)

I hate people who say IQ has nothing to do with it. They say it like they're some sort of authority. But you're not. You're not even educated. Men also have to divide time between work and famililes although women have to put more into it than men. That's for sure. Obviously, but you make it out to be the only factor--like it's the only reason why you can't think of a single thing that has been invented by a female.

Pffft. I wasn't talking to you samcdkey. Obviously there are things women have invented. The point is, men innovate a lot more and one has to really rack his or her brain to think of things women have invented because they've invented so few things.

Could it be because men restricted the access of women to education?

And hence may also have taken credit for their inventions? ;)

Of course that's a factor. But it's not really a factor anymore.

And hence may also have taken credit for their inventions? ;)
Do you sincerely believe the reason it seems men have invented everything is because men steal ideas from their wives and take credit for them?

Totally! ;)

I'm willing to credit women with textiles. I bet in our early development, women made some of the greatest contributions in discoveries, as they sat around and minded the children all day.

...and gathered food, and carried their children on their backs, and brought water, and discovered medicine, and pottery, and basketmaking, and tanned hides, and sewed clothing...

Maybe we should look at teenagers when the society-factor is not present yet. Are female students less inventive than male students? If so, than the society oppresses women argument doesn't stand. (even if it is true, it is not the main reason why women are less inventive than men)

So anybody has any study, experience of the inventiveness of students compared by gender?

Studies of IQ have actually shown that men and women have the same IQ .

However men have an enormous capacity for spatial recognition , females have
however amazing capacity of communication ..... research has shown that women are capable of using both left and right hemisphere of the brain when communicating ,
men are only able to use one hemisphere ....
Then again women can get easily lost in the environment ....
Men do not get lost, due to the speciel spatial recognition of their brains ...

Some believe that it is the result of our time as gather/hunters ...
Women stayed at home looking after children and chatting ...
Men hunting and beeing able to find their way back to the women (and children and old folks) - no matter what way they walked out into the environment - beeing able to make a threedimensional map in their mind ....

Men and women has strenghts and weaknesses - cant really say which of them are superior in todays community ....

Communication is very important in todays society ....

;)

I saw a program that said it's not so much men vs. women, but overall testosterone levels. One female Air Force Pilot competed well with men on a spatial task, and this was predicted by her testosterone levels. This level also correlated with the difference in finger length between two fingers, I forget which ones.

Paraclete:
If they are the same intelligence, why do males outperform females in SATs, ACTs, ASVABs and other cognition batteries?
Because all of those tests are biased against women?
Tell me, what isn't biased against women?

Yes, exactly. It's hard to invent much while you're downing mastodons. I bet fire was discovered by a woman.

Dr Manning and Dr Baron-Cohen found that autistic children had extremely long ring fingers compared with their index fingers.
Fuck. I knew I was too good at concentrating when playing videogames. My ring finger is substantially longer than my index. About a full cm. I wish I had some comparison though.
Overall, therefore, men tend to have longer ring fingers than index fingers, whereas in women the two fingers are more likely to be of equal length.
I've also read that people whose ring and index fingers which are very close in length do better in things like school. I guess that makes sense, since women generally do better at school than men.
