Horrible news. Women don't know how to guard things, they're women. Men are men and do know how to guard things. Therefore the pope will end up dead because of female incompetence and the world will revolt against women. Then we will have no new babies.

The swiss guard is largely ceremonial. For fuck sake their outfitted as halberdiers. Your either one sexist ass or have a rather eclectic sense of humor.

    Very funny, Cheski.

I didn't picture you the sort who'd be bummed out over no new babies...

But wouldn't it be a boon year for the non-Catholics? I mean, they'd love women, right? Now, if chicks let John Paul die, that might rouse the l'il fuckers, but this new pope? Fuhgedaboutit!

First female guards, then female pope next. Oups, that has already been done.

The cardinals should be busy landering money, they don't need unnecessery distractions...

There used to be an annoying image here

Don't you think women those might be distracting? The men are, for an entirely different reason.

As usual pj you don't know what your are talking about:

    Swiss Guard.

It is a small force responsible for the safety of the Pope, including the security of the Apostolic Palace and access to the entrances to the city.

Building on tradition, members wear a long sword (officers a rapier or straight sabre) and receive instruction in the ceremonial use of their halberd on a four-sided pole which is held on their right during marches, drill, and regular formations in their official duties around the Vatican. The halberd includes a loose metal ring just below the halberd blade which adds a loud clink when an individual or formation comes to attention. Other weapons and regalia carried by higher ranking non-halberdiers include: a command baton, a partisan, a flamberge (a wavy two-handed sword), and breastplate with shoulder guards.

Besides their traditional arms the Swiss Guard also has contemporary non-ceremonial small arms like SIG P225 pistols and SIG SG 550 assault rifles at its disposal for security duties. These small arms are also in use by the Swiss military. The Guard also engages in yearly rifle competition and receives self-defense instruction, as well as basic instruction on defensive bodyguard tactics similar to those used in the protection of many heads of state. http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache... I don't know how to resize on a forum, and I didn't know they were that big when I opened it. I'll delete it.

As usual you run your mouth of to insult some rather than add anything useful to the topic at hand.

I know who the swiss guard are.

If you would have used your noggin instead of just looking for the chance to insult someone you would have realized that most people are familiar with them only in their ceremonial garb or as ceremonial troops. when their actually doing their security duties their not as well ornate and less recognizable.

I did add something to the topic, information, and your the one who didn't know that they were more than ceremonial.
The Swiss Guard is a elite military organization, of dedicated military professionals.

What I posted covers only a small part of what they do for the Vatican.

Now what information have you provided to the conversation other than improper capitalization, insults and swear words?

I knew they were more than ceremonial. If you'd bother to try and read rather than insult me you would seen that it was implied that they were more than ceremonial. I also know that they ceremonial duties were largely gain in 1970.

What you posted was a direct plagiarism from wikipedia.

um them thinking about lifting the 500 year ban on woman guards. What did you add to that topic. nothing.

Wow most people would show shame at being shown to have plagiarized. I am an awe of your lack of concern for what it would do to your intellectual reputation.

Mod note: You are correct. Buffalo did not meet the standards required for posting on this forum as noted in the rules here:
    7. Cutting and pasting / plagiarism

    A. General
Posting large verbatim extracts of text from other sites is undesirable for several reasons:
    · It uses up storage space on Sciforums.
    · It duplicates information that is easily accessible elsewhere.
    · It can disrupt the flow of a thread, because posters have to scroll through large amounts of text that they may not wish to read.
    · It may breach copyright laws.
Therefore, we ask that posters abide by the following guidelines:
    · All quotes from other sites must be attributed (e.g. by posting a link to the site).
    · Quoted text should be restricted to a few lines or a paragraph unless the poster is quoting the text along with his or her, own detailed analysis (interspersed with the text).
    · Avoid verbatim reproduction of entire posts of other posters (e.g. from earlier in a thread). If you want to dissect a post, it is fine to split it into different parts, but do not simply quote the entire post and then add a one or two line comment.

Posts which deviate from these guidelines will be edited or deleted.

    B. Plagiarism
Plagiarism consists of copying another person's writings and passing them off as your own. If you post something somebody else has written, you must name the author, and preferably also reference the source. Posts which include material from elsewhere that is not properly acknowledged will be deleted. http://www.sciforums.com/announcement.php?f=37
His post was edited and Buffalo has been warned for this behavior.

Are they actually trained to use that sword, or is it for show? I know the US Marines have a sword as well, but I don't think they are trained to use it.
