I found this interesting read about covering up front cameras on laptops, phones, even TVs, apparently to ease concerns that hackers can hijack the cameras to spy on whomever is on the other end. For years, security researchers have shown this is possible.
Last month, even the FBI director, James Comey, told he put a piece of tape over the camera because he saw somebody smarter than him had a piece of tape over their camera.

Do you cover your camera?
 
I have done so in the past, but now I just mouth imaginary conversations involving the plotting of vast terrorist attacks. So far it has not produced any results. My attempts to break into the porn industry have been equally unrewarding, although those at least give me some exercise.
 
I can't figure out how to turn on the camera on my laptop. The User Manual insists that it doesn't have one and the Control Panel wants me to install one but I've seen myself on it a number of times. I just can't control when.

Yep. My son notice that his camera came on while he was watching a video, so now we cover all the computer cameras. I've never used mine, so I see no point in having the thing. It is an invitation to look into your privacy.
 
My brother had tape on his laptop camera - first one I ever saw with such a camera - and the family had a laugh at him. Now we all cover them. They turn on when they shouldn't (including when logging into financial sites, government sites, etc), the more adept in the family have caught them active without the notification light going on, and why take the risk when the fix is so easy?

Sure there are more serious risks, but that's one down anyway.
 
Always. I have a little knobby thing taped over it, which doubles as a lid-stop to prevent accidentally turning off when The Yellow Peril scampers across my desk.
 
Is it supposed to be more "sad," or more "funny," that people harbor such ridiculous delusions about their own worth?

I did on my last one yes. I just put black tape over it. I just got a new computer though and No.

I'm confused by this too. It's as if parm thinks this kind of thing doesn't happen.

If you walked past my house, would you think it funny - or sad - that I have curtains in my windows? Would you think it narcissistic of me?
