I am an American mutt.
Great grandma was a full blood Cherokee, married an Irish potato farmer. My dad was story teller for a First Nation Ojibwa tribe, his dad was a Bohemian from Bohemia. It goes on like that.
In the winter, I am "white". In the summer I am "coloured". I catch flak because my mom was Canadian and my dad was American. I live on the border. I have had black guys from downtown Detroit call me "nigger". Around here, some of us use that term affectionately, some use it to describe a certain type of person - and it has NOTHING to do with race. It has everything to do with attitude.
I have no use for prejudice when there are so very many perfectly good reasons to dislike people on an individual basis.
