In the cricket

Ah, that explains the Little Master remark.
I thought you meant spud.
Yes, I admire any great sportsman.

As regards temperature, it can get up to 40 degrees in Southern Europe.
Not quite Coober Pedy standards, but pretty hot.

Is a person who likes living in Coober Pedy, a Pedyphile?
Possibly an old joke, but I just thought of it.
Just so I don't offend the people there, here's another.
People who don't live in Coober Pedy are Opal-less.

Regarding flooding the lakes. I suppose the problem is that, given that torrential rainfall can fill it a few times a century, what happens if it is already full? It would need to be open to the sea. That would require the biggest canal ever built. Question. If the Victorians didn't do it, or try to do it, is it worth doing?
I doubt it. But persuade me.

Is the area rich in unusual wildlife? Harsh environments usually are.

haha.. Coober Pedy....Pedyphile..
nice work CK..
and yes, harsh environments tend to bring out pretty unusual wildlife..
i worked as a French Tour Guide at Uluru (Ayers Rock) for a while and some of the creatures i came across were out of this world!!!!

Spud - great cinematography... funny, funny!!!!

Back to cricket...Aussies have made a come back.. now we just pray that we win the next test and either win or draw in the last and we get the Ashe's back!! fingers, toes, eyes, ovaries crossed!!!!

Kremmen, I'm a little surprised you'd even consider flooding the inland with sea water.
Australia is an ancient landscape and has a very rugged looking appearance.
The truth is it's a very delicately balanced thing. Rising salinity is a massive problem, especially in low lying areas where farming practices have been questionable. I'm talking mostly about the south west of Western Australia ( which is an extraordinary landscape, again ancient and a land island[isolated on two sides by ocean and the other two sides by massive deserts] so it's developed its own offshoot species over millions of years, an amazing place).

Our mightiest river is the Murray and it's a beauty, it drains the entire Eastern side of the country and forms a magnificent wetland in South Australia before flowing into the ocean. The drought we've just come out of (it lasted a full 15 years) combined with appalling overtaxing of the resource for irrigation (for ridiculous crops for a dry country like cotton and rice) nearly turned the wetlands into toxic acidic sludge.

We're having a La Nina year (as opposed to El Nino) so it's a wet year, huge floods. Farmers watched it start to rain, put in their crops, watched them grow, it kept raining, the crops were all time, it kept raining, they started to harvest, the rain got heavier, harvesters got bogged then went underwater.
No crops, worse than the drought. Tough country.

I grew up in Melbourne, went to the boxing day tests many, many times. I watched Lillee and Thommo in their full fury, awesome sight. Still haven't seen anyone bowl as fast as Thommo. Saw Boycott's stumps removed by Lillee and later by Rodney Hogg. I've seen Viv Richards tearing us apart, Alvin Kallicharran doing a pretty good impersonation of the little master ( and he was even smaller), anyway, I won't get carried away, but yeah, Christmas time, Ashes there to be won, sun belting down, cold beer in the fridge, life's good. Oh! and I've got twelve days off.

I'm predicting a close battle in Melbourne, tight finish.

Tell you what.
If the Australians win at Melbourne, the inland is saved.
Otherwise it gets flooded.
I can't say fairer than that.

Message from Orstralien Family planning Unit (Avian Division)
Ere's a little baby duckling what was abandoned by its peerents.
They were too busy watching cricket to take care of it.
Fortunately this Kookaburra chick offered to adopt it.

A duck eh??
is it golden however??, like the one poor Ponty went out on in the second test??
with all the spare time on his (fractured)hands, Ponty should be the ducks care-taker..

It's only his little finger isn't it?
Might cause him a bit of pain if a ball hits it, but not playing would be ridiculous.
Little fingers have no use at all apart from wriggling them in your ears.

I think Ponty's duck was an Australian blue billed duck.

World's most beautiful duck.

Ponting needs to get the sand out of his vagina..

(yes, it's just his little finger, the princess needs to get on with it and play on, or retire... yes, i think he should retire...time to go Ponty..time to go and start looking after the Avian Unit)

Kat, Ponty is a good player.
It's his qualities as a captain that people are doubting.

I'd love one of those blubill ducks.

i know!!
it's time to retire from Captaincy (is that a word??)
time to bring in some young kids, a new captain, and go from there!!
in my opinion anyway..

you can't have a blubill duck CK, you can have Ponty though?? would you like Ponty??

Ponting is a class player, he has an awesome record. He is getting a little long in the tooth and his shot selection has been ordinary of late.
He still has a huge capacity to make runs at test level but has been having a run of outs (not necessarily poor form) which every player goes through. Hussey was on the verge of being dropped until very recently, Katich got dropped after a terrible run of outs (and form)and had to claw his way back. Greg Chappell, Lara, Matthew Hayden they all went through it.

Ponting can score some runs, steer Australia to a momentous Ashes victory, retire a hero. The next few weeks will tell the story.

I've only ever seen a couple of Blue Billed ducks in the wild, quite rare or at least elusive.
I've never seen a freckled duck in the wild. I did see Bell make duck but he was looking pretty domesticated.

Yes, we'll swap Pietersen for Ponty.
How does that sound?
Ponty will retire from Captaincy after this series, if he has any sense.
He hasn't the skills to do it, and why take all that shit?
He's doing his best, I'm sure.

I must have one of those ducks! Or two or three.
Where can I find a duck shop?

@spud.
Ah, Bell. I hope that during this series he can show what a fine player he is.
It makes my heart sick not to see him do well at international level.

I bought some sprats for the seagulls today. 94p worth. About 30 of them.
It took them half an hour to realise they were there, but when they did they went ferkin crazy.
Polished them off in thirty seconds.
They've probably never seen a fish before in their lives, and for many generations.
They knew what to do with them though.

I wonder how much a barrel of sprats cost?
I bet I'd end up with every seagull in the Midlands.

When the Aussies batted I thought, 'O.K, the groundsman fucked up, this wicket is a minefield (even though the Poms bowled brilliantly), what a disgrace! Wait till the Poms get out there we'll see how well they do"

Well it's now 0/93 (could easily be three or four down mind you) can not get an edge the Poms.

This is too much to bear, I'm going surfing.

Quote from Geoffrey Boycott (On Australia's performance): How Sad. The tears are rolling down my cheeks, and I'm dabbing them away.

God, he's annoying. Classic comment though.

The pitch could improve tomorrow, perfect for a slogger.
Another double century for Pietersen?

That's not funny

Before this test began, I thought England might put the series away with one brilliant session, I suppose a total first day blitzkrieg will suffice.

Poms were 3:1 against before play began, with a draw extremely unlikely, they were astounding odds. Only misplaced patriotism stopped me from having a wager.

I'm throwing in the towel.

/gutted

To come back like this after a shameful display is a good sign for England.
They also had a full practise session on Christmas day.
Good attitude.

Pietersen is fielding well.
Sorry Kat. I offered to swap him for Ponty, but offer is closed now.
He's in my good books.

I wasn't impressed with the Melbourne crowd.
They left the ground long before the game ended.
You can't just support a team when it is winning.

woeful. :(

highlight was Warne bowling to Jackman...
Jackman was probably the best batter we had on the day..

oh, and CK, i've looked through the Ponty/Pietersen swap offer contract, and there was no mention of the offer having an expiry date... i'll see you in court!!!!

as for the crowd leaving before the game was through.. it's the Aussie way!!! we're clearly not good losers...i had friends there and they left early, and i called it quits when England hit 0/110..

it's currently at 2/193...
wow..i thought yesterday was bad..it's looking worse for us today. :(

It's what the home crowd does--leave so they don't have to watch their side get their collective bums wiped.

Over the ditch, NZ managed to scrape together a win against the Pakis. Not a bum in sight, so nowhere near as entertaining.
