well my city isnt on the list (its too small - population 70,000) but i dont know exactly how we compare to the rest of the country, i havent traveled much at all. but i really find it hard to believe that 64% of the population is fat. i mean, thats two thirds! seriously, that is an unbelievable figure to me...

Hey, not all us Americans are pigs! Jeeze. Jerks. My city is number 8 on the fittest cities. I don't think that's too bad. I'm guessing the only reason Seattle made the list is because we're so fucking granola (Green is in and organic is good). Not to mention the weather here is shitty half the time so we're so depressed we don't eat. What the hell. I love my city and I'm not some obese fatty who sits on my ass or has a glandular problem that I can't help. Not everyone who is fat is lazy you know.
The rating system is suspect - they don't distinguish muscle from fat. But Americans are fat, for sure. And as long as the OP brought the topic up, obesity is correlated with race, religion, and economic class in the US - the increasing obesity has tracked the increasing percentage of nonwhite people, the increasing poverty, and the increasing role of religion, in recent years.
Brazil is not really any better with 40% obesity. It would be higher if you can survive long enough due to the homicide rate and the divide between the rich and poor is astronomical.
hmmm, i was really surprised at that obesity rate for brazil, i know that homicide is a through the roof. why are these places so violent?
I live in the 15th fittest city in the USA! Wahoo. Odd. I don't notice any less fatties here or more fit people. While I do agree that my generation, in particular, works out a lot more than my parents (pretty much all of my friends work out a lot), I can't say that this isn't true in most other cities. ~String
