a series of questions


laws can be amended or discarded if found to be a source of conflict or simply unworkable. a replacement could be used if required. the sanctity and reverance is a relic of ancient superstition

your thoughts?


moderator edits and deletions

the assumption here is a mod is both rational and logical.
furthermore it is assumed that he or she is knowledgleble about the content that is being moderated

is this always a given?


lets work a simple hypothetical scenario

i post 1+1=2
mod disagrees and deletes as unscientific
i am astounded and insist on my version by a repost
i am banned/whatnot by this particular mod

comment from this point on to the resolution of affair
what dialogue if any takes place?


possible solutions. unknown if practical

1- bad calls could be ruled out by vetting all edits and deletions by a team of mods. errors in judgment can be minimized to the furthest possible extent, a repost could be then dealt with according to community standards/law. an automatic penalty is imposed. no negotiations necessary

2 - the repost can be allowed to stand without penalty until scrutinized by a team of mods. this would rule out any miscarriage of justice

what do we do about a mod that makes bad calls in edits or deletions? what goes on behind the scenes? fuck em? sheepish grin? no one cares?

i know of no one that has been fired. ever. is that not unusual? a choice of a mod being magically the right one?

Not because of wrongful moderation, but because I believe in second chances, or because the poster apologised or because they were new to forums and did not know what was or was not permitted or because sometimes its hurt lashing out etc etc etc. :rolleyes:
 
I forget the exact details, but he basically screwed the pooch. He was the last elected moderator. He was the poster child for why the popular vote is not necessarily the best choice.

I do recall he started making harassing phone calls to a member who also happened to be a real scientist. But, don't remember if this was before or after he was modded...

I also seem to remember him moderating posts as jokes as well.

He was an all-around failure.

He was allowed the 'dignity' of resigning and 'leaving the forums forever'. But, nobody was fooled.
 
Oh, yeah.
I remember him threatening suicide as well.
Who knows? Maybe he did?
I think he lost his job at Walmart around the same time.

the haiku was a label imposed on my writing style. the def was not my primary objective
i was desirous of an analysis of MY style

read the tp and justify the interpretation of your mod

did frag have an option to start his own thread?

i assume the haiku issue was a pressing problem. a matter of great import.
instead of this half assed shit, should not this skilled mod have exercised that option?
