Oscillator

a type of electronic circuit. these devices produce repeating waveforms. they can be divided into two broad classes, analog and digital. the digital types are sometimes called multivibrators or clocks and produce square waves. as used in electronics oscillators are used to test equipment and to insert carriers and decode radio signals. when used as testing devices oscillators are called function generators and produce numerous waveforms depending on the dial settings.
