Bias is when you are right despite overwhelming evidence contrary to your position.

it's also a term used with trasistors, diodes, and vacuum tubes. with diodes it means to conduct (forward} or not conduct (reverse). with transistors and vacuum tubes bias is applied to give the desired amplification with the corresponding reproduction of the signal. there are 3 basic types of bias.

  • class a
used in audio preamplifiers and is noted for its faithfull reproduction of the signal.
  • class b
used in audio power amps to boost the signal with negligable distortion. this type is used in what is known as push-pull.
  • class c
used in radio transmitters and severly distorts the incoming signal.
