Fine print: 1. Must buy food from subsidised US farmers, putting Third World farmers out of livelihood 2. Must use US carriers for transport 3. "Surplus" food is sold cheaply in Third World markets, destroying local economy 4. US food aid increases poverty and hunger 5. Most "aid" money comes back to the US via farmers and carriers
Prove it, and I don't mean some article in some blog. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I don't think the people of Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Haiti, India feel the same way as a holier-than-thou 'reporter' who has a full belly.
Err.. if you break those numbers down to per capita, or related to GDP, the US is not going top the list.
Its called structural adjustment policy. Its why organisations like CARE will refuse US food aid CARE Turns Down Federal Funds for Food Aid
America has its own poor. Right now Michigan is sitting at a 9+% unemployment rate. The people who get food stamps, WIC or free gvmt food appreciate it. The ones who don't get it are thankful its not them.
well good for them. One group I will not donate to. CARE can tell that to the people who have starving children. When is it ok for a kid to die? Not in war, but they car starve?
I always give to MERCY corps. They actually use the food to help people, not destroy their livelihoods. http://www.mercycorps.org/
We don't do as much as we can. The more money we make the more selfish we have become. I remember so many food and clothes drives when I was young. We used to do so much, give so much. Now we can barely bring ourselves to care about other people.
I've heard about that one. It sounds good but I have some questions.Where do the cows come from? What are they fed? Can local communities feed them or do they have to buy imported feed? What is the cost of caring for the animal? What is the return to the family?
Per capita: USA -> 6.76 The Netherlands -> 7.12 By GDP: USA -> 0.01496% The Netherlands -> 0.01511% http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) http://www.cbs.nl/nl-NL/menu/themas/bevolking/cijfers/extra/bevolkingsteller.htm http://www.census.gov/population/www/popclockus.html
well then, doesn't that mean the Netherlands is responsible for starving all those people and crashing their economies?.
Thanks, I guess I'll have to read the whole shebang Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I ask because of this: http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/wbimf/imfwbReport2001.html
