Bacon! At least it wasn't a bacon towel. On a more serious note ... okay, I admit, the more serious note is slow in coming at this point.
Apparently all that Japanese pressure to succeed got to the surgeon. After all his cousins were cardiologists and neurologists and such. Suddenly the poor chap realised his life's work would amount to no more than simple procedures and, as the stressed, overworked Japanese are wont to he threw in the towel!
